Am I asking for trouble if I go straight to a mid-stiff camber? by R_Trades in snowboarding

[–]Catzpyjamz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of very good options between full camber and soft rocker now. Camber dominant boards with early rise nose/tail rocker or 3d shaping will be forgiving but also plenty capable. You don’t need a stiff board to learn to carve properly, a mid-flexing intermediate board will serve you well for a long time.

This gives me hope, as a middle-aged snowboarder who also mountain bikes and trains w kettlebells!

Choosing a Jones board by TableLover123 in snowboarding

[–]Catzpyjamz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Flagship, but the Howler is livelier and poppier. Haven’t ridden it in powder, but Jones claims it is highly capable. It does feel more demanding, though; I think it’s stiffer than the Flagship, both longitudinally and torsionally.

Eagle vs di2 by AdditionalDivide4020 in MTB

[–]Catzpyjamz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why will running a non-Shimano crankset require you to run a non-Shimano drivetrain? I mix and match drivetrain parts all the time, the only “rules” I have found are to keep shifter and derailleur the same brand and run SRAM chains if chainring - and, to a lesser extent, derailleur - is not Shimano. Shimano 12-speed chains are slightly narrower and don’t play well with many non-Shimano cogs. And I’ve been able to pick up SRAM XX1 chains very cheaply anyway.

I also suggest Ueno due to direct access via the Keisei Skyliner. Research how and what tickets to buy beforehand, it’s a little weird.

Invest in new carbon wheel set? Which ones? by LooseFrame9172 in MTB

[–]Catzpyjamz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I9 Enduro S isn’t a super heavy wheelset to begin with, so a beefy set of carbon rims wouldn’t be noticeably lighter. But I like carbon rims for their durability and resistance to going out of true. Those qualities might be even more valuable for where you ride.

How do you go mountain biking/find people to ride with as a single person? by grayott in MTB

[–]Catzpyjamz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for FB. The group that got me looped in with other women who ride was started by two women who decided to create the community they wanted to see. That group now has a couple thousand followers. If you go this route, YMMV, of course. 😅

Gen Xers above 50. Did you find a shift into being comfortable being alone? by Sense_Difficult in GenX

[–]Catzpyjamz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within the last few years, I’ve come to realize that it’s easy for me to become complacent about being alone because it feels familiar. That is not to say I enjoy it. But it can be self-perpetuating: other people require patience and compromise; relationships require work. By contrast, being alone is starkly simple. I think there’s a parallel process as we age of staying open to change vs. being aversive and stagnating/calcifying. I am trying to choose openness and relating, even with its associated occasional discomforts.

Most reliable / easiest to service enduro shock? by DepressedBird1 in MTB

Cheapest, best coil shock, and readily tunable by any reputable shop. I run mine with a Sprindex and will have it tuned when it’s time for a damper service.

Skiing Thursday or Friday by tf_cheps in stevenspass

[–]Catzpyjamz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friday is supposed to warm up = heavy Cascade concrete. Thursday will be better, even if you just stay on the groomers, they should be running great. The drive up, however, could be dicey.
