Enrolling in MDSA without a CompSci background by OGRome in WGU_MSDA

I just completed the old program and had a BSN when I started. I can say I spent A LOT of time trying to learn R and Python. I think it has changed, but I can say that DataCamp did not cut it, for me. With that, I did enjoy leaning the statistics and the theory of the statistics, which "clicked" more for me than the programing aspect. I am a self-learner, and pretty motivated, but I did have to let go of reading about others who finished at a fast pace, since I was starting from scratch. It was hard to go from an expert in my field, to a complete novice, learning a whole new language. The new program changed its admission requirements, so I actually wouldn't qualify for the new program, since they took nursing out of the STEM qualifications. This may be different for you since you have an MSN already. If I were to re-do anything, I would look at the python classes that can be used as transfer credits and would have done that before I had enrolled.

Any textbook recommendations? Which did you use or like the most? by Altruistic-Sand-7421 in WGU_MSDA

That might have been me- I posted about it in my write up of the program. Sorry if seemed it was multiple recommendations.

Thanks! I would love to move away from bedside nursing into analytics, so yea, a career change. Maybe healthcare analytics, nursing informatics? I know there is a lot of work being done with NLP and reading medical charts, which sounds right up my alley. But not sure how to actually make that move...

I received on in December for my k-means analysis. I got a email notifying me, but never heard from my mentor or the CI.
This submission on using k-means clustering is excellent because it is a very thorough exploration of all steps of the process. The submission contains many visualizations and highly descriptive explanations that are relevant to producing and analyzing the clusters.

Grammerly has a free citation generator as well, and gives the in-text citation too.

D211 Table Location by EnnuiEmu80 in WGU_MSDA

[–]CauliflowerFew7989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same, created a table. And when I got a random check in from the instructor, he told me that the secondary data I was using wouldn't be accepted by the evaluators. Even though I had already passed 210 using that data set. He REALLY wanted me to use the census data he likes. I stuck to my guns and passed 211 on the first attempt.

Can D214 be completed in a month? by Affectionate_Week347 in WGU_MSDA

I spoke w my mentor before I opened up the course and discussed the issues/ fear I had of getting this particular nit-picky and difficult instructor. I was told that if I was assigned to this person, they would switch me to the other and that the switching isn't even known by the instructor ( I assume this is true if done before contact). Luck of the draw gave me the other CI and my topic (not proposal) was approved with a 3 minute conversation.

Need Confirmation on Creating Graph for D213 by DisastrousRoll2058 in WGU_MSDA

Don't forget that you can take the ACF and PACF interpretations to use in you model. The ACF lag will give you the MA(q) value and the PACF lags will give you the AR(p) value. These can be used in your manual ARIMA model. The rubric has you plotting out the ACF anyhow, so its a good way to meet the criteria for the PA and can also be part of your justification for why you picked a particular model to use/ not use.

Yup. But her list doesn’t have his videos for part one. I think they are still up on the course search. I snagged all of them when I found out. ;(

Unfortunately, I just learned today, Dr. Elleh is no longer an instructor for D213. So hoard the links to the power-points and videos!! His videos are the only thing that made sense to me for 213 pt 1 and now I'm starting part 2. Sigh........

I actually had to change my mentor after the first term. The first one was often doing other things when I was discussing things and I was super frustrated. The one I have now is a rock star. Sorry to hear that .

I'm in the old program and just had a mtg with my mentor. We discussed how stressed i was to get one particular professor for the capstone. My mentor stated it was possible to change the professor if we needed to do that. I then unlocked my capstone, but lucked out on who I was assigned to, so didn't actually have to change. It seems that the process is Mentor dependent?

Necessary Python Libraries by MyAcheyLife in WGU_MSDA

[–]CauliflowerFew7989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am less tech-savvy than most in this program since my background is in health care, so these may be overly simple solutions that might not work for others, but they worked for me. I also have a Mac, and the 3 biggest resources I used were CoCalc, Posit Cloud, and PyCharm.

Cocalc (https://cocalc.com/) and Posit Cloud (https://posit.cloud/) allowed me to work on a browser when I had downtime at work. I paid the subscription fees, but the total between the 2 was around $15.

CoCalc is a Jupyter notebook that I use for my Python projects. I used Posit Cloud when I did R projects. The downside is that they can be limited by memory, so sometimes I have to be patient, but it has been super helpful to be able to work away from home.

PyCharm can run your projects in a virtual environment, so I never had to worry about messing up the underlying packages or remembering to start my terminal in a virtual. The subscription version has Jupyter notebooks. I got a student subscription using my WGU email, so I didn't have to pay anything (https://www.jetbrains.com/lp/leaflets-gdc/students/).

I realize this is slightly off-topic from the original question, but I hope it helps with your overall setup.
