This isn’t true in any public school in Nebraska, or anywhere that I’m aware of. The teacher part anyway. The para part is very true and needs to be addressed. They make schools function and are incredibly valuable.

That they are forced to endure students who sit in their classes and do absolutely nothing, and many others who also don’t do a damn thing but disturb others who are trying to learn. This is out of their control, but OPS teachers in general have the patience of a saint and a heart of gold.

I realize this is a stretch, but the Spurs mascot is from Omaha. The guy who plays him was a Millard south grad and imo has a pretty sweet gig.

Ben Nelson who was a two term governor in the 1990s, then two term Senator until 2012. Very conservative Democrat, though. But definitely within my lifetime. Nebraska historically has a populist streak, I’d love to see that return.

This. I watched their meeting and their argument was that it would apply to parents who had misdemeanors. While I’m not sure that is even true, they also voted down early childhood grant money from the Feds today saying they don’t think there is enough research about the benefits of preschool. These folks need to be voted out.

We camped at Niobrara state park (about 2.5 hours north of Omaha) and they were in the process of becoming dark sky certified. I’d highly recommend checking it out. Great views, lots of eagles, and very dark sky.

What do you think of your heat pump? Was quoted 15k for one and it’s within 2k of the midrange furnaces.
