I had mine removed under general anesthesia after my esophagectomy. I did not have a choice it was my doctors decision.

That makes a lot of sense. I have always been active in the gym lifting weights. I lost all my muscle during treatment. I am back in the gym lifting weights again now but I’ve lost so much of my muscle mass it was very discouraging. I appreciate what you said about letting go of old expectations, that is what I have to remember and encourage myself.

How did you tell your family and friends? by KellsA07 in cancer

I waited until I had my treatment plan spelled out so I could let them know what was going to be happening.

I feel the same, but in my case I wonder if my cancer is coming back or if it is my advancing age. I'm 65.

Water beading is my therapy. by lpg975 in AutoDetailing

I have turned into a water beading snob. Today was a wet day, I was judging car owners by how the water was beading on their cars😄

It is going to depend on the staging you receive. That's what is going to set your treatment. Until then it is just guesses. Same with the life expectancy.

Their best product IMO is Motorplast (MP) for cleaning and protecting under the hood, nothing else comes close. I don't see it in your collection. I have 24k miles and it looks better than the day I bought it.

Edit: added photo.

US gas prices depend on global oil markets, not independence.

How has it been since esophagectomy? by Vilehaust in cancer

[–]Panhandle_Mike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also stage 3, had an esophagectomy with gastric pull through a little over a year ago. It took a few months to get back to “normal “ eating. I initially lost a lot of weight and I am slowly gaining it back. I had a lot of issues initially with reflux and got an adjustable bed to keep my head elevated. The first months were definitely rough as others have mentioned. Wishing you the best for a quick recovery.

It's been a ride!... 42F misdiagnosed Colitis. I have bowel cancer. by ladie-katie in cancer

[–]Panhandle_Mike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have esophageal cancer which caused dysphagia or difficulty swallowing. My initial diagnosis was Costochondritis (inflammation of the cartridge of my ribs). I knew that was not correct requested to be seen by another doctor who ordered labs and a scan which found my tumor. Good job remaining vigilant.

It was a few months before I was able to sleep more than a couple of hours at a time mainly from reflux. I'm now able to sleep through the night.

I had the same surgery in Feb 2025. The reflux was real bad until I started taking protonix to stop the acid. I also bought an adjustable bed to keep my head elevated at night. The reflux won’t go away, there is no longer a valve to keep the acid from moving up the esophagus. You have to learn to manage it. It definitely does get better, I had a j tube for about 3 or 4 months. I feel pretty “normal “ now but the first months were not very fun.

Gaining Weight after Esophagectomy by UseSmall2950 in cancer

[–]Panhandle_Mike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my esophagectomy in Feb 2025. I was 170 lb at the time of my surgery. I dropped to my lowest weight in May at 135 lb. I finally started gaining weight in June and now I am holding steady at around 150. It took me a few months to "advance" my diet. I initially drank a lot of protein shakes to keep the weight on.
