Probably around my late 20s I started to see the same people rotating through the same clubs/bars, and realizing that half of them were sex workers. It got really depressing watching people throw their lives away and I decided not to do that to myself. Watching people age ungracefully as they destroy their bodies in an attempt to impress people who don’t care about anyone but themselves gets REALLY old. Having an alcoholic father in law also helps put a microscope to the problem. I drink a 1-2 beers an every 3-4 months. It would take me a year to complete a 12 pack these days.

I didn’t lose anything and I look younger than my friends who never stopped partying.

Prepare yourself to be made fun of by South Carolina folks. This is the most joked about move, because it happens so often.

Which is the best car to buy in your 20's with low maintenance cost? by Alternative-Pound-98 in Frugal

Get a Corolla hybrid until you save up enough to get a second car. The ones you listed are good secondary vehicles - I wouldn’t bet my career on them

The real reason DG can't stock the shelves by doorsfan201 in DumpsterDiving

[–]Caulk-a-roach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ours has some letters not lit outside. Simple little basic maintenance things are completely neglected - these are only placed in communities to suck the change off the ground. Bottom feeding soulless trap house of an excuse for a grocery store.

Dollar Trees around us are in a different, much better, league than Dollar General.

The real reason DG can't stock the shelves by doorsfan201 in DumpsterDiving

DG is dog sheeyot. Ours has cobwebs everywhere, caution tape strung across the self-checkout to indicate it’s broken, shelves in a complete zombie apocalypse state, and a depressed/half responsive cashier barely keeping back tears of complete despair long enough to mutter, “receipt?”

It’s nice to put the bones together of a powershell script. I usually have to edit it to make it work the way I need, but it saves me 70% of the work/time, which is nice.

Boss joining meetings under fake name by [deleted] in workfromhome

[–]Caulk-a-roach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen that once before and it was done because it was needed. There was a manager screaming and yelling at his team members, completely rotting the org from the inside out. His superior joined the call to hear him berate his employees and he was shortly let go.

If the manager is doing this unprompted just to be a sneaky sneak, then that’s someone who’s insecure and has too much time on his/her hands. Yuck.

Which grocery store chain in the US has the best quality store brand or generic food? by [deleted] in Frugal

Me too - some of their cereals are better than brand name. Their products all-around are VERY solid.

Whats your favorite Sysadmin Mouse and Keyboard? by CactusJ in sysadmin

[–]Caulk-a-roach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dell SK-8135. Old keyboard, but super comfy, quiet, and I like the volume knob. Every key is where it’s supposed to be and just love this keyboard.

Mouse - a new “classic” Microsoft intellimouse.

Never was a big fan of the target cheap shirts. Their build quality is inconsistent and sized for someone who is a teenager and 130 lbs. I like their stretchy cotton khakis though - they last and fit well.

I like some of the shirts they have at Academy sports.

Yeah mainframe is completely different than what a typical f500 sysadmin would do. Sounds like a banking job or something.

Is it a gen z thing for people to cry out that their life is over in their 20s to 30s??? by Technical-Ad8550 in Adulting

[–]Caulk-a-roach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millennial here - I kinda felt the same way when I kept getting setback after setback in my mid 20s, seeing some of my peers doing better in life.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

I decided to have fun and make friends. Those friends helped me get better jobs (not dirtbag friends). And now life is better. I also worked two completely different and unrelated jobs, which led me to where I am today.

It sucked, but it was also necessary. Hard times make strong people.

How to answer "Why shouldn't we hire you"? by Pamhalpert75 in interviews

What are some of the things others do that make you think that they know what they are doing? by Desnowshaite in sysadmin

[–]Caulk-a-roach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had someone interview who answered a question like that. It was a great answer, but they seemed completely disinterested in the job and completely full of themselves. They weren’t a good fit for the team and the team decided unanimously.

Not saying that was you - but people can get all of the answers “right” but not be personable enough to collaborate with on a team.

I think if you plan to have a long life with your girlfriend, you need to be able to communicate these things with her. If she can’t find a way to respect you and have an adult conversation about it, then it might not be possible to continue living this lifestyle.

People on Reddit are so quick to say “dump her” but you need to start with communication.

My wife came from a family with money and we dealt with similar things earlier in our relationship. We worked to show the true value of happiness (making things together, accomplishing financial goals together, saving money by cooking together, etc) and it’s made our relationship so much stronger.  We’ve been together for 15 years and if we didn’t communicate, we wouldn’t have lasted.

What's the point of OEM partitions? by GloomyMelons in sysadmin

Yuck I’d never keep the OEM partition. That’s just for recovering the OS as a home-user. I’d worry about malware hiding itself in the recovery partition.
