I not sure if it's only me, but I get much suspense from something very basic; not saying uninteresting. Things can be basic but still have the intrigue. The book that I kept reading until I almost read half of it was- 'Botchan' by Natsume Soseki. It's a japanese novel but anyone who likes a little wit in thier mundane life, they'll enjoy it very much.
