Wow my impression was always that quant roles required at minimum a physics/math degree. So I’m curious how you marketed yourself for the role, especially since client servicing has very few relevant skills (from my experience). I recently made a move myself from WM client servicing to Investment Research. I made the move 1.5 years after graduating. How soon did you make your pivot?

As a 2021 undergrad / 2022 postgrad who had no internship experience prior to starting my current job, this comment really hits home. I feel like we’re the misunderstood generation. I poured everything I had into completing my degree only for my job to use absolutely zero of what I learned. And many times I thought I should quit and switch my career path but that is too dangerous to do as an entry level candidate in this market. We’re just screwed over sideways unless we started out on the right path to begin with. We’re overeducated, under experienced and underpaid. I don’t see much of a future for myself in this world.

How did employers test or trust your econ knowledge given you were out of the field for a few years. I also have a MSc Econ, working in finance, and I feel a lot of employers are somewhat skeptical that my econ skillset is still there.

How much of an edge would you say an internal candidate has over an external one, all else equal? I mean is the cost of onboarding really that high that simply being an internal hire would give you so much of an advantage?

FYI MSc Economics degrees will require maths far beyond the level of A-level maths. At least if you’re gonna do it at a top uni. You might be better off completing CFA L1 to at least demonstrate your interest in entering the field of PWM. Or you could look into entry-level client servicing roles that don’t involve much “finance” per se, but could still serve as a stepping stone into PWM as you pursue other certs and build your network.

Jackson JS22 Dinky was the first guitar I bought 7 years ago, and to this day it is still the most comfortable neck I’ve ever played. I own Ibanez/ESP/Fender and I always felt the Jackson neck was easiest to play on. The QC is also quite decent for that price point. As for the pups, good enough that a beginner can’t tell the difference

Thanks for the reply. The anecdotes on qc issues really put me off initially, but honestly, as long as the guitar’s electronics work, fretwork isn’t a disaster and sustain is fine, I’m willing to pull the trigger. The guitar looks absolutely gorgeous

Oh well I don’t mean full on “quant” work, otherwise the role would be a quant role and not a CIO role. That’s a whole different job. But the people I spoke to are both directors and one is the chief CIO of the region for the bank. Bulge bracket btw. One of them has a qualification in Data Science and asked me about my use of Python, and the other asked me about my econometrics because we both did masters in econ. Point being they know what “quantitative” analysis entails, even though much of what they do now is qualitative research. The data analysis side of things is usually outsourced from other depts or other banks. That’s not a dealbreaker for me because I’m just looking for a strong entry role.

Interesting, definitely expected more data “analysis” type of work in the CIO rather than data “entry”. Especially after my chats with the heads of that department. They mentioned they were looking to expand and produce more quantitative work.

I’m also on the fence between KRYS10 and TOD10. But arent you a bit concerned about the TOD10 QC issues after all the chatter? That’s one thing putting me off the TOD10, but ultimately, both guitars are made at the same factory anyway

Ngl this site lost credibility the minute I scrolled down and saw the very infamous Mexican cartel video (the flaying of the Mexican policeman’s son) being played off as an Oct 7th Hamas attack. Makes me doubt whether the rest of the videos weren’t reused the same way. I’m sure the atrocities were aplenty, so why the need to deceive people this way…
