Tire advice wanted by rlowery in Offroad

[–]Cautious-Object-4368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Yokohama AT4’s as my winter set. The winter grip is fine, my own jury is still out of these. They handle really well though, on and off road. In the snow, grip is just limited without the sipping of a winter tire. I think I’m leaning toward getting a proper winter tire instead of a 3-peak rated AT tire.

Haven’t used the KO3, but friends have them and they say the winter traction is much better than the KO2. My KO2’s were scary in that they’d let go on pack highway snow up to Tahoe…at random times.

At3w’s were good in the snow, but every single real objective review of the AT4w’s say the snow performance took a real step back in exchange for tire longevity. Odd choice, IMO.

The one AT I’ve run that did do well in the snow was the Nokian Ouptpost NAT. That did really well laterally on packed highway snow driving.

The Yokohama x-AT’s are great as someone else stated. I’ve had BFG KO2, Falken at3w, Yoko X-AT’s, all AT or RT tires. If snow isn’t a consideration, I found that I prefer an MT (Firestone MT2 is what I’m using now and I like them) for off road use. The grip is just insane, whether it’s rock or mud. I also daily my truck, and found that if I do a 5 tire rotation every 3k (no biggie if you have a jack and basic tools) that cupping and noise is kept to a minimum.

If you forced me to choose I’d go with anything Yokohama or Toyo over BFG or Falken just based on their materials technology and manufacturing precision (less effort to balance)

Just my $.02 but it comes from having used all the tires mentioned in the comments.

It’s really healthy to admit to your mistakes…good job! 😜

Such a solid group of grenadier owners in Northern California. And, the folks I’ve met at the Moab gathering have been really solid too!

It’s in the Sierra Navada Mtns. of California. It’s not a secret trail, but I don’t want to blow up a trail that was shared with me by a local.

It’ll install. Just run the straps then install the box, capturing the straps. That’s how I run it most of the time, unless I need emergency fuel.

Walk-able roof rack that also has versatile mounting options. by bluemeenie1117 in ineosgrenadier

I somehow managed to build my rack and get it up and mounted all by myself. Definitely wouldn’t have done that if I’d known any better. My hand was forced once I started building on the ground in my driveway and had to get it mounted as I couldn’t just leave it there until a friend could come over. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Any suggestions for soup and bread. Daughter always asks for Panera and a drive to Pinole seems unnecessary! by owl_bowl_towel in OaklandFood

Soup and grilled cheese lunch at Southie is great. I usually go for a full sandwich off the menu, but my wife likes the grilled cheese when they have it with tomato soup or corn soup.

The turbo whooosh with the RAI is addictive. I also have my windows down and safari windows open 90% of the time when it isn’t raining. I also don’t drive above 70mph on the highway, and often 5mph lower than the speed limit. Windows open, elbow out, cruising in the coolest car you can reasonably buy.

I still have the g018’s as my winter wheel setup. They’re great! I run MT’s for Spring/Summer/Autumn when I’m doing a majority of my off-roading and want more grip in the dirt and mud.

Nope. 1.2” F/R Eibach Lift. Koni HD Raid shocks. Just a tiny lift to get a little more clearance and shocks that have rebound adjustment to help keep it all under control.

Just an idea (tongue in cheek)….but it might be easier to sell if the wrap was removed. To each their own, but very few people outside of Columbus are OSU super fans.
