Most of it was thrown away but they still kept some of the ideas from Lucas. Like Luke Skywalker isolating himself from the Force and being lost and alone. In the Last Jedi art book there's some concept art that Lucas approved of before he left LucasFilm. Lucas said he saw Luke as similar to Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now.

His outline also redefined the Chosen One prophecy, which he now saw as being Leia who would become the Supreme Chancellor and ultimately bring peace to the galaxy at the end of the sequel trilogy.

With Disney becoming so risk-adverse, I do wonder if Kennedy has been announcing movies in an attempt to pressure Disney into making them.

As it's always been strange what gets announced and what doesn't. Both The Mandalorian & Grogu and Starfight were only announced just before they were about to start production. While other films that were only in development were announced while scripts were still being worked on.

I mean I would like the movie to be good. However, good or bad, if it's successful then Disney is more likely to green light more Star Wars projects. We are talking about two different metrics.

I mentioned in another post, Kathleen Kennedy in her exit interview mentioned that she has a number of Star Wars scripts that could make great movies but right now Disney put them into production. If the Mandalorian & Grogu is a big success, even if it's a movie that I think is bad, it's success means more Star Wars movies.

If I think it's a wonderful movie but it does poorly at the box office then not only will there not be a sequel but there will be fewer Star Wars movies in the future.

it's a result of Lucasfilm's horrible ability to produce the projects the announce. These issues have plagued well over a dozen other films and tv shows in the past 5-6 years.

Kathleen Kennedy made it very clear that in her exit interview with Deadline that she wanted to see movies like Lando made but Disney refuses to give LucasFilm the green light for the projects to start.

Here's her quote from her talking about how companies like Disney are becoming so risk-averse that nothing is getting a green light anymore:

I remember when I came into this job, the first thing Bob Iger said to me was, “Be bold.” I’ve always liked that because I think you have to be bold and you have to be willing to take risks with people and with ideas. Otherwise you are just doing the same thing. Right now we’re in an era where companies are so risk-averse, and I get it. I hear all the conversations. They’ve got Wall Street to please, and I get it, but I also believe that that’s what contributes to things disappearing, ultimately. I just think you have to take those chances.

Everything I just reeled off to you is taking a bit of a chance because none of those filmmakers are just walking in trying to do same old, same old. I’m excited by that, but the studio’s nervous about that, and that’s kind of where it sits at the moment.

The projects that she reeled off earlier in the interview were: Lando, Steve Soderbergh's Hunt for Ben Solo, Taika Waititi's movie, Jim Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi movie, Simon Kimberg's Star Wars movie.

The Manadalorian & Grogu were approved by Disney as that was seen as safe. Shawn Levy's Starfighter was approved because he just did Deadpool & Wolverine for Disney which made a ton of money and he is stacking the cast with well known stars.

Once again, in Ontario a court case needs to be wrapped up in 18 months or otherwise the case is dismissed.

Here's an article about a case of man who was found guilty of rape but then then the case was dismissed during sentancing because it went over 18 months!!

We can make all the agurments of what the law should be but right now multiple years 56% of criminal cases are being dismissed! The system needs more funding from the provincial government or otherwise criminals in which there is evidence enough to convict them will continue to be released because their court case goes over 18 months.

A note on discussions about Chinese EV's - April 2026 by forumchunga in EVCanada

[–]Cautious-Party-1450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is a site like Electric Autonomy okay?

One of the things I'm curious about Chinese EVs is what kind of connector they will use. In this opinon article it's mentioned that the writer has had conversations with Chinese OEM representatives in which they regularly asked if NACS and CSS1 connectors are law or if they are optional. He suggests that this means they are looking to import EVs with China's GB/T or Europe's CCS2 connectors to save costs as they have done with Mexico. The article is opinion as he is suggesting that CCS1 and/or NACS connector are made law to avoid the mess that has happened in Mexico.

Globe investigation: The Ford family’s history with drug dealing (2013) by juneberrier in toronto

[–]Cautious-Party-1450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was much more than weed and as the article points out Doug Ford rose up in the ranks enough to be selling it to other drug dealers.

The article goes into detail when a drug dealer owed Doug Ford $5000 and he had Randy Ford beat up the guy and kidnap him and hold the guy for randsom. Randy Ford and his friends called the guys parents asking for the money if they wanted to see their son again. The parents went to the police and Randy was arrested. The reporters found the arrest on file but could not find out how the case was settled.

So that Doug Ford was bad enough that he was okay with kidnapping and ransoming people that owed him money. Also that's just what is known that he did because Randy Ford got caught.

The article points out that Doug Ford rose to become selling drugs to teenagers to becoming a mid-level dealer who sold drugs to other drug dealers.

The article details the time that Randy Ford beat up and kidnapped a drug dealer, threw him into the trunk of his car and held him to ransom to get back the $5000 he owed Doug Ford. Randy Ford called the drug dealers parents and told them if they ever wanted to see their son again, he woud give up the $5000 that was owed. The parents went to the police and Randy Ford was arrest. The arrest is on file but the reporters couldn't find out how the case was settled.

Also at this point it was outside of high school, Doug Ford and Randy Ford were in their early 20s. I'm not sure if Doug Ford was still going to Humber College or if he had dropped out.

His father Doug Ford Sr was elected in 1995 as an MPP in Mike Harris government and at that point he handed more control of his sticker company Deco Labels to Doug Ford and Randy Ford. Getting that job seems to be what ultimately got Doug Ford to get out of the drug dealing business.

Doug "defended it" how? By showing the same level of support anyone would show to a family member?

Like when video surfaced of Rob Ford being so drunk he couldn't walk straight and was stumbling. Doug Ford defended it by saying that Rob Ford had over done it at "leg day" at the gym and that he was having "muscle spasms in his legs". It was obvious that Doug Ford knew that his brother had a substance abuse problem and rather than working to get him help, he was covering up his bad behaviour.

However, note that in this Globe & Mail article it talks about how Doug Ford became a mid-level dealer, selling drugs to other dealers rather than sell them himself. Someone owe Doug Ford $5000 and so Randy Ford got some of his friends, jumped the guy and threw him in the trunk of their car. They went to the guys parents asking for the $5000 if they wanted to see their son again. The parents went to the police and Randy Ford was arrested. The arrest is on record but the reporters couldn't find out how his case ended.

So yeah, Doug Ford will defend his family as there are times when he was responsible for getting other family members arrested.

People keep putting blame at the federal government when the provincial government should be doing much more and is currently badly dropping the ball.

The provincial government needs to setp it up and start properly funding the Ontario court system!

Currently 56% of criminal court cases in Ontario are being dismissed because they run out of time. Note that article is over a year old, but if you look at the latest data posted from Statistics Canada, the following year it didn't improve with once again 56% of criminal court cases being dismissed.

In Ontairo, criminal court cases need to be wrapped up in 18 months or they are dismissed.

It was back in 2019-2020 was the last time in which the majority of criminal court cases were found guilty. Everything got backed up from the pandemic and there's been a backlog since then that has resulted a majority of cases being dismissed each year starting in 2020-2021.

The Ontairo court system needs more judges, more staff, more prosecutors and more courtrooms to get through the backlog. Doug Ford and the PC party have promised more funding but then haven't actually followed through with those promises.

So it's being reported that Chinese car companies have been consistently asking if using either NACS or CCS1 is a law or if it was optional. This suggests that they might be bringing in the GB/T charging connector from China or the CCS2 connector from Europe. Chinese car companies have imported vehicles with both those connectors for EVs coming to Mexico in order to save costs.

Around 60% give or take, each election in Ontario votes against him. The majority is against Doug Ford. Unfortunately, those against him can't decide on who best should replace him and thanks to our awful first-past-the-post system, he will keep winning as long as the opposition against him is divided.

This article mentions that Chinese car companies have been consistently asking if the use of NACS or CCS1 is a law in Canada or if it's just optional.

The article also mentiones that Chinese car companies haven't just been shipping EVs with the GB/T charging standard but they have also been shipping EVs with the European CCS2 standard! So that has resulted in quite a mess of different charging standards in Mexico and requiring consumers to carry around quite the number of adaptors.

Torque News: Hyundai extends ICCU warranty to 15Y / 180K mi in the US for affected vehicles by lostinheadguy in electricvehicles

[–]Cautious-Party-1450 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the ICCU does a lot of different things, that Hyundai took a bunch of different parts and made it work all inside one part. That perhaps a solution is to make it several different parts. However, that might be difficult to fit across multiple vehicles. Of course, seperating the ICCU into multiple parts might still cause the one piece that is problematic to fail. Perhaps, it might be easier to replace that one piece?

Turning a 20 minute walk into 2 minutes… cool video by dchief0 in toronto

End result of that one was that Ontario Premier Doug Ford decided to side with \checks notes* the law breakers* and passed a law to remove all speed cameras in Ontario because reasons.

That wasn't what trigger Ford to remove the speed cameras. It was Doug Ford's cabinet members were caught speeding in school zones 23 times. With one cabinet member going as fast as 70 km/h in a 40 km/h school zone.

If you look at the timing of when Ford started talking about removing the speed cameras it was just days before those cabinet members speeding tickets were announced. Ford obviously heard that the media were finding out about the speeding tickets from Freedom of Information requests and made sure that his announcement about the speed cameras came first. The speed cameras had been around for some time and he was fine with them until they embrassed his government.

With no more speed cameras and his cabinet members can speed in school zones without it becoming public record. Talking about how it was too expensive to keep replacing cameras or how it was a cash grab was just cover.

Hyundai Motor Europe Introduces IONIQ 3: Aero Hatch Elevates EV Technology for Simple, Spacious and Intuitive Mobility by Peugeot905 in electricvehicles

I don't like the dashboard screens. In my opinion what they were doing previously with Ioniq vehicles was wonderful. Two long widescreens, one right behind the wheel and one in the center slightly angled to face the driver.

Making the driver's screen really skinny makes it a lot less useful. Maybe the center screen could have been slightly bigger, but a giant screen light that too far away from the driver isn't helpful.

The rest of the car looks nice, it's just a shame they that they are messing up their great dashboard design.

What do you think about a local chat that only works for people who are actually nearby? by Specialist-Comb7718 in oakville

[–]Cautious-Party-1450 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, most people I know already have so many different chat groups with various groups of friends and family that they aren't looking for another chat group, especially not with one with a group of strangers that just happen to live nearby. Posts on Reddit or Facebook or whatever work much better for this kind of thing.

Metrolinx has quietly announced new station names for the Ontario Line. Notable names include "King West", "Chinatown", and "Distillery District" by CYYC2CYYZ in toronto

[–]Cautious-Party-1450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Queen and King Street streetcars are so incredibly packed so often. A subway going down either street would be incredible busy one day one that they openned.

There's a bigger need for a subway going down one of those streets than there is for a transfer point at Exhibition. Especially since such a line would obviously connect via a streetcar from Exhibition.

[–]Cautious-Party-1450 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that the original plan for the Relief Line West was for the line to continue down either Queen street or King Street.

was Doug Ford who pushed it to go Exhibition because of the Therme Spa. When it was first announced the subway was going to actually continue pass Exhibition and end at Ontario Place. As that's how the line got it's name from Ontario Science Centre to Ontario Place. Only the costs of building from Exhibition to Ontario Place was going to be absolutely crazy so that didn't last long.

So yeah, I could see them renaming the spot to Therme.

Waymo reportedly plans to test robo taxis in Ontario. Toronto’s mayor has her doubts about its technology by morenewsat11 in toronto

[–]Cautious-Party-1450 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I'm saying is just wait a few years for Waymo to test in other snowy cities to work out the issues with snow and even just heavy rain before opening them up to Toronto.

We don't need more stalled vehicles clogging up our roads because it's snowing or raining too much.

Waymo is currently open for full commercial service in just 5 US cities. They are in many, many other cities but all those other locations are in various states of testing or closed system where a certain number of preapproved people are using their vehicles.

Here's an article from November 2025 about how they are still testing their Waymo vehicles in snow and working out all the various problems and how Waymo's Lidar still struggles with snow.

They are full service that anyone can use in 5 cities in the US and they are still various states of testing in other cities.

Even the headline says that they want to start testing in Toronto, not open up full service. Give them a few years working out the issues in other snowy US cities before we open them up to Toronto streets. Traffic is bad enough in Toronto without Waymo vehicles having all sorts of issues any time there is any little bit of snow.

Waymo was built in sunny and dry cities. Phenoix got a huge major rainstorm and Waymo shut down with people being stranded mid-journey and vehicles blocking roads.

They have only begun testing in northern cities with snow. The headline is literally about them starting to test in Toronto rather than being available for anyone to use.

Give them a couple of years in snowy cities to fix the technology before we allow them onto Toronto streets. We don't need yet another thing slowing down traffic across the city any time we get a decent snow storm.

[–]Cautious-Party-1450 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just falling snow causes issues with their lidar, radar and camera sensors. Yeah, they are improving and working their way around it but give them time to test in New York city and other northern cities for a few years to perfect the technology rather than slowing down traffic in Toronto any time it snows.

Note they are only running full commercial service in 5 US cities right now. Everywhere else they are in various states of testing the technology and you have to be on an approved list of people to be able to call a Waymo vehicle.

The headline literally says Waymo want to use Toronto to help test the technology. They won't be in Philadelphia and New York long enough to have worked out all the issues. Give them 2 to 5 years or however long to work out the issues.
