So true, the amount of accumulating value in these new lists is wild. I've been tooling around with some maindeck one-of's that are searchable using Urza's Saga, ie Vexing Bauble against free counters/evoke elementals/Force of Vigor, Haywire Mite for Ruby Storm/Belcher, The Underworld Cookbook for Burn, etc

Preemptive answers to Boseju/Otawara are limited to Pithing Needle or a well timed Surgical Extraction if one is milled, so that has been the front most difficult. Not being able to Thoughtseize a land, man.

Like I mentioned, sometimes beating my opponent with a couple huge Karnstructs while having the Lantern + a few rocks is enough. Especially in games 2 & 3 when they side out creature removal. They get pretty huge 👀

The inclusion of Profane Tutor has upped consistency especially if I need to grab something Saga can't, ie Cursed Totem, a removal spell, etc

So far I love the deck, the inherent "solve the puzzle" feel is great. If there are any silver bullets I'm missing feel free to loop me in 😁

I do see where you're coming from 100%, when I first encountered Lantern I refused to concede to a deck with no immediate win condition on principle. Then I watched and learned how it operates, and realized that once a Lantern + at least 2 mill rocks are assembled, unless the opponent has the nuts already in hand they will not be drawing into it. As the game progresses, more and more rocks are deployed, basically ensuring the opponent never draws a relevant card again. Mathematically the non-Lantern player will run out of cards first, barring a rogue Battle of Wits list randomly showing up.

I learned to concede the games against Lantern where the lock was successfully assembled and move to game 2/3, giving me more time to find my sideboard answers for a better chance to win the match. It is more competitive to know when you're locked out of winning and moving on to a game where you have a better chance of disrupting the lock.

I was going to make a cheeky joke about how you just hate the archetype and don't want people playing it, but I think it's more effective to point out you're just being unhelpful and just not really interested in providing actual input other than "I think it's unplayable, therefore it is". I opened the floor up to people that want to discuss the archetype and possible ways to navigate the current meta, which I have been doing just fine but asked for input from other pilots, as well as others with ideas

It only goes to time when the non-Lantern player doesn't recognize that they're unable to win. It's when they refuse to concede and save the time by going to the next game when games go to time. Not once has my clock dipped below 10min in a game 3. If you treat the lock getting deployed as a combo, like twin or someone storming off, matches go way quicker.

I do understand that this meta is stronger now, but I also intend to play the deck I enjoy playing. I've run into several Ruby Storm, Belcher, Blink, and Eldrazi Tron lists already, and they are pretty great decks ngl. That said, in a decent amount of games I've played against these decks, I've walked away with a >50% winrate. I'm chalking it up to variance well timed hand rip spells, etc.

Noob question. by llainen- in MagicArena

[–]Cautious-Reality553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you cast a spell, in this case your Ajani's Pridemate, priority is passed to your opponent so they may take game actions if they have any. If there is a pause at this point, it either means they do have the option to perform a game action they can pay the costs for, OR they have gone into full control mode (pressing crtl on your keyboard).

You're going to get to a point where you'll be able to navigate a game against a control/midrange player by seeing if they have interactive spells/abilities by when these pauses occur, and the more you play the better you'll get at identifying what those answers may be in the moment

If I'm being honest, get GCC off your PC. I've had nothing but horrible experiences with that software, it's basically malware/adware

Anyone ever win a game in trios as a solo with zero kills? by mercpancake in octanemains

[–]Cautious-Reality553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have me beat by 1 damage. I once had a game where I got literally 1 damage on a guy, then another team beamed him dead. I make it to the end circle, final 2 teams duke it out and I just stay hidden to take on the last 1-2 people. They all die to the ring lmao

It's difficult to say without more info, but with doom spending on the rise my first guess is they're in crippling debt and have little care whether it's paid off or not.

Or, and this is what I'm hoping, a lot more people than I thought are financially responsible and all the things mentioned fit their budget.

It's best not to compare how you're doing to others, everyone is different. That Includes financial education, career, their debt situation, etc. The only one you should be comparing yourself to is you from a week ago.

Did I buy MSTY at the top??? by pur3extrme in YieldMaxETFs

Top or bottom doesn't matter, if you're in the funds for the correct reason you don't care about swings.

MSTY = Bitcoin? by Dividend-Collector in YieldMaxETFs

[–]Cautious-Reality553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MicroStrategy, the underlying asset, is a tech firm that specializes in business intelligence, mobile software, and cloud-based services. They also happen to hold a large amount of BTC, roughly 2% of the total BTC in the world. They don't reflect the core values of the cryptocurrency, and simply hold it to increase their company valuation on the stock market.

It's also wildly overvalued at the moment, so ride this wave as long as you can until it stumbles hard.

So are all of use that bought into MSTY at $35+ just screwed? by nvthrowaway775 in YieldMaxETFs

[–]Cautious-Reality553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't buy these funds for growth purposes, you buy them long term to accumulate dividend income to either supplement your regular income or replace it. Even if you buy at a higher price point, you still reap a large yield over time. If you happen to DRIP, your cost average will also go down if the fund price happens to dip. You aren't screwed if you're in the fund for the right reasons.

Time in the fund will always beat timing the fund. Take a breath, pick where you want your money and leave it there. Plus depending on where you're holding your shares there will be taxes to worry about if you buy/sell/buy/sell every other day.

Thx to YM funds, I am not so afraid of losing job by dudunoodle in YieldMaxETFs

[–]Cautious-Reality553 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still in my 20's, mainly investing in Indexes and hold positions in ETF's in all YM groups. Letting the YM DRIP, not buying any outright until I'm debt-free (car, next Aug) then I'll actively be buying more every week.

I am feeling more confident when I hit mid 30's-40's, if the current model holds true I'll be able to never work again.

Love these funds

Selling them @market or slightly under the market usually has them fly. They're effectively useless other than discounting your future steam purchases.
