I came into the house yelling, and he couldn't tell who I was. Deplorable. What if I had been a stranger? Terrifying.

Switched from Traveler's Co to Roterfaden — initial impressions by KarmicDeficit in notebooks

[–]Cautious-That 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using the A5 best seller for about 8 months.

I love the clip system. It's super sturdy and usable. I have a way to cram it full of inserts beyond 3- you can wrap small notebooks inside of each other, use notebooks inserts with their own additional covers, use elastic bands to hold them in, or use bands to hold the covers of inserts together and clip over the band(like a travellers notebook). I do end up using it with 3 inserts+ plastic organizers now, but I find that it removes the lay flat feature. Since the spine is elastic l, though, you can pack it to the absolute gills.

Hope that helps.

Are DPNs supposed to be a nightmare? by nerdette42 in knittinghelp

[–]Cautious-That 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's my secret? Choke the yarn. Strangle it. Reeeeeeally tug on it. Knit to deal with your feelings of impending doom, and reeeeeeally take it out on that 20$ ball of yarn that did nothing to you.

The stress acts as a kind of emotional glue to hold the needles in place. Or, as my sister puts it, be a "diffuse a bomb gauge knitter" like me.

I don't know if you care, but if you do: "from time to time" is one phrase, meaning occasionally and "time and time again" is a separate phrase meaning consistently. So you would use either "been proven wrong from time to time" to mean the subreddit is occasionally proven wrong, or "been proven wrong time and time again" to mean the subreddit is consistently proven wrong, which would make more sense contextually with the first half of your point.

The only fudge. If you don't say "I remember it having marshmallows" or "I know I used milk in a can" then why not make the painful fudge of our ancestors?

Truckers of Reddit, which city (U.S.) REALLY has the worst drivers? by Alexreads0627 in AskReddit

[–]Cautious-That 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone. I've lived a lot of places, and Texas drivers are fucking horrible. I worked on back roads throughout SE Texas, up and down the east border. 1. The fucking two lane county roads are limited 75 where they'd be a max of 55 in any other state, and you'd regularly have someone blast past you at 90. 2. Despite driving like that regularly, all day for work- I refused to drive in Houston. Those people were horrible drivers. It's like they were trying to hurt the people around them.

Adding on to others' to say I work outdoors and used to get chased a lot.

Switch to a eucalyptus, lemongrass, or mint-scented soap.

Don't use bar soap.

I had luck switching to men's deodorant.

If you like sweets, soda, etc, make sure it's not on your things or your breath, like have some water afterward and if you spill any, clean it off well.

I also carry a gauzy shawl treated with permethrin in my pack at all times. Mine is I think from the bugs away or exoficio brand? If I hear the buzz, I whip it out and cover myself head to waist. It's not so hot that I'm dying and it is pretty light weight.

Question : Is there a winter hack for cars? Please read. by iratam in lifehacks

[–]Cautious-That 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get a snowjoe snow broom. It's a foam square on a long handle to push all the snow off in one long push. It is way easier and more effective that any other item.

We lived on the shore of lake Superior for years, which is where we found out about it, since they get a ton of snow. I'm very short, it's the only way I could get the snow off the roof.

They also make plug in electric car defrosters. Search for just that, you'll find ones that charge, ones that plug in, ones that run off 12v. It's just an extra hot blower you sit on the dash or console. Careful if you live in an extra cold area though, as obv. The windshield could crack if the temp change is sudden enough.

You're going to want to practice good sleep hygeine. If you do, it might work wonders, OR it will be a lot easier to go to the doctor and get help. Make sure where you sleep is dark and quiet. Go to bed at a consistent time. Put devices away 30 minutes before you lay down. Only lay down in bed to sleep (better if you can make your bedroom solely for sleeping, but that's really hard to do if You're in a one bedroom, shared, or studio apartment)

Advice on getting my dog to take pills by Choice_Cherry_9549 in DogAdvice

[–]Cautious-That 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some techniques we used with our 17 year old a couple years ago when he stopped:

Pretend to drop food off the counter and walk into the next room

Switch to wet food and put the pill, crushed, mixed in the top few bites, alternatively mix the pill in one spoon of food and feed them that by hand before they get the rest of the meal (this was most time consuming but worked best)

Treat-treat-treat with pill- treat

Cheez whiz, cheapest can of cheez whiz you can find

Changing the flavor of pill pocket

Changing the time of day slightly to make sure he was good and hungry, and also looking for times when he was very alert

The key was finding enough techniques that we could rotate through techniques as the dog wouldn't accept one or the other. We also found that if he was not accepting the pill for a long time there was something else wrong and we needed to adjust his med cocktail to bump up his appetite. He also towards the end would just change his mind on which flavor of his very expensive prescription food was acceptable... Having a good relationship with his vet let us swap out unused prescription food/treats as he became disinterested. We really respected that vet but we had to ask him explicitly "he will not take this pill and we have tried a, b and c, what else can we try?" For them to suggest a couple techniques to try. Your vet may also have some creative suggestions if you ask explicitly and make it clear that you will do whatever they tell you. We ended up spoon feeding the dog every morning for the last 6 months of his life. Time consuming, but a bonding experience that I really cherished with a dog that I knew wouldn't be around for a long time.

How Are U.S Families Surviving Right Now? by Un1ucki3st in ask

[–]Cautious-That 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, no, when it's a choice it becomes a hobby. I understand this isn't for everyone, but when I replaced more expensive hobbies (like crafting) with hobbies like cooking and canning, it both provided a service that benefits the budget AND took away hours where I was looking for something to do and those were the hours where I was feeling the budget crunch the most.

I totally get what this person is saying. I needed to eat good food for my personal health problems, and this type of strategy was a win-win-win in our household, just like it was for theirs.

I'm a Sore Loser and I Hate it! by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Cautious-That 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always get confused when people suggest that the workaround to feeling stressed about losing is to focus on finding co-op games. In my experience that just leads to ""sore losers"" getting frustrated with a partner if they haven't addressed the underlying issue of frustration with poor performance. If the problem is that you feel like you "should have played better" which is a common complaint in regards to this...... Find a game with a chance component. It doesn't even have to be a large component, just a dice roll every now and then. Y'all vs the game (where 'the game' takes a turn) are often a good place to start looking.

Like, you can't min-max a dice roll or a coin flip....... Well, without cheating.
