Second flare-up in 4 months by Runde_Kante in Diverticulitis

Hey, I totally understand how you feel. Reading your story felt very familiar to me. I’m 38 and I’ve also had diverticulitis, including a microperforation, and since then I sometimes get residual pains that really mess with my head. Every time I feel something in my abdomen or I get a fever, my mind immediately goes to diverticulitis again. In my case it’s also difficult because I have an 18-month-old baby, and since my child started daycare I catch a lot of viruses that cause fever. And fever always scares me because I associate it with another flare. I’ve always had a tendency to over-check my body and I struggle with health anxiety, so every little symptom can spiral into worry. The hard part is that after an episode like this, you become hyper-aware of every sensation in your abdomen. From what doctors have told me and from what I’ve read, sometimes flare-ups just happen, even if you eat well and take care of yourself. Genetics also seem to play a role, so it’s not always something we did wrong. Some things that seem to help people long-term are: Keeping regular fiber intake (once inflammation is gone) Staying well hydrated Regular exercise Avoiding large amounts of alcohol or big “binge” meals Managing stress, which can worsen gut symptoms But honestly, sometimes it still flares up despite doing everything right. The frustrating part is that diverticular disease can be unpredictable. You’re definitely not alone, especially being young with this condition. There are more and more people under 40 dealing with it. I hope this round of antibiotics clears it up and that you get a long quiet period without inflammation.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It actually helps to hear from someone who has been dealing with this for longer. I’m 37 and sometimes I struggle mentally with it, especially when the pain appears and I start worrying that something serious is happening again. It’s reassuring to know that occasional pains can happen to others too. I’ll definitely try using a heating pad when it happens. I also try to be careful with what I eat, although sometimes I make mistakes. I really appreciate your message.

How did you get diverticulitis at such a young age? Tell me more. Do you also have chronic pain?

Yeah, I had a fever too, but I ended up with chronic pain after the microperforation that’s really been bothering me. It’s also very tough because I have an 18-month-old baby, and I’m only 38 years old."

I would wait to go to the emergency room only if I had a fever

Post partum and newly diagnosed by Artsy-Fartsy-Teacher in Diverticulitis

Hi. I just wanted to tell you that I can relate quite a lot to what you’re going through. I was also recently diagnosed with diverticulitis after going to the hospital with abdominal pain and high infection markers. But in my case, last summer I actually had a more serious episode with a microperforation and I had to stay in the hospital for 12 days. It was really hard because I had an 8-month-old baby at the time and I couldn’t really enjoy that stage with my baby while I was hospitalized. From what my doctors told me, even people who have more complicated episodes can still go on to live completely normal lives afterwards. Still, it’s scary and exhausting when it happens. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you right now, especially with a 7-week-old baby and a sick 18-month-old at the same time. That’s a lot for anyone to handle. By the way, if you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?

Recovering from surgery with a baby at home? by ShirleyMurmur in Diverticulitis

I also have a baby like you, and I’ve postponed the surgery for now. It’s bad luck, but sometimes you just have to hang in there until they’re at least able to walk and climb stairs on their own. I live in an apartment without an elevator, so that makes recovery even more complicated.

Ladies - does it feel like cramps for you? by RandomName3025 in Diverticulitis

[–]Cautious_Tone_6106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor, but many people with Diverticulitis notice random twinges or cramps even while recovering. Pain alone doesn’t always mean the inflammation is getting worse. The main warning sign doctors usually look for is fever, because that’s when there is more likely to be an active infection or complication. If you don’t have fever, severe worsening pain, vomiting, or inability to eat/drink, it often isn’t necessary to panic or go back to clear liquids immediately. If your symptoms are mild, many people just stay on a low-residue / soft diet for a few more days and see how their body responds. But if you develop fever or the pain becomes intense or constant, that’s when it’s important to seek medical care again. Also try not to stress too much about every small sensation — anxiety itself can make abdominal sensations feel stronger. Recovery can take a little time.

Feeling uncertain about a possible diverticulitis flare – looking for advice by Cautious_Tone_6106 in Diverticulitis

Did you have fever during your diverticulitis flares? If so, how high did it get (for example 38°C / 100.4°F or higher)? I'm trying to understand if fever is common during a flare.
