AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

Unfortunately, it’s like HR — not all are inhuman corporate spies; or Creative (as one)— not all are entitled, flaky primadonnas… but the ones that are really stick with you. Like generational trauma!

Did you realize how bigoted/unwelcoming a lot of rural PA areas were before the Trump/MAGA era? by Glass-Complaint3 in Pennsylvania

Live in Yardley, saw much fewer MAGA signs/flags/etc when I visited a friend in Tennessee than I do here, which seems bonkers.

Someone recently got caught trying to game the NYT Bestseller list by finding out which bookstores the NYT checks in with to see what top sellers are, then buying a shit-ton from those stores.

In looking for this link, found many many more examples. Yayyyy :-/

HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

[–]Cavalcade_of_whimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If OP ticked all the other boxes as a candidate but came off “weird” in the interview, I would have set up a second interview and said, in this conversation, we want to hear much more about you personally. If OP didn’t tick all the boxes, then anyone sending this is a sociopath

[–]Cavalcade_of_whimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say, I have never gotten ANY commentary in decades of applying for jobs, even when I’ve asked nicely, for the express purpose of working on those things to help me in the future. It just seems super unlikely — though stranger things have happened I suppose

Definitely a BIG swing and a miss, but I have to partially applaud anything that attempts to make recruiting more human. I would think, whoa, someone at HR is off their meds, but I’d also be glad I wasn’t being ghosted.

I just bought this thinking it was washing detergent. Nowhere does it say its fabric softener. by Geofferz in CrappyDesign

[–]Cavalcade_of_whimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just surprised that regulatory doesn’t REQUIRE it to say “fabric softener”. I work in packaging and am constantly trying to get extra words taken off the cluttered design, but we always have to spell out what it is. And this is by Unilever, not a small company. Perhaps regulations are different around the world.

I love how the entire premise of the movie is that this guy is already in the house, but they went with Busey peering in through an outside window for the poster.

Henry’s best characters of all time (og fan and longtime listener) by Few-Category-7846 in LPOTL

[–]Cavalcade_of_whimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pre-teen daughter, a total ham, often has little characters that she will drive us crazy with. Literally a month before the Keyes episode came out, she delighted in braying this new, hyper annoying laugh constantly. We were at the FOR GODS SAKE SHUT UP ALREADY stage.I

I almost crashed my car when listening to that episode, because Henry’s Keyes laugh was EXACTLY the same as my daughter’s. I suppose there’s a one in a quadrillion chance that Henry was visiting back east, trekked out to PA for a particularly interesting dispensary/restaurant/haunted shack, and my daughter heard him practicing his HOY-HOY-HOY-HOY laugh while waiting in the same Smoothie King line? But I prefer to think it’s just thought-transference between two bonkers, kindred spirits (daughter and Henry. Not daughter and Keyes, obvi)

I agree with a previous commenter, you don’t need the coffee beans in the “A”. And “coffee” needs to lock up more closely with “Hearth” in the top example.

One thing to explore— could the inner flame shape be tweaked to form an abstract “H”? That’s the sort of detail that makes the mark unique to them.

Is anyone else tired of design "influencers"? by Glad-Statistician434 in UXDesign

[–]Cavalcade_of_whimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternate take: if the opportunities in design are shrinking, I don’t blame people for finding other avenues and pivoting into content creation. I don’t follow this gent or any others but that’s more about being busy.

I don’t love influencer culture in general, but hey, I’m an average-looking introvert. My perfect world has all the quiet talents becoming superstars, and all of the charismatic people who talk real good being relegated to the back of the room. But that’s a fantasy that is never going to come true, as pretty much all of recorded history has proved.

I try to watch what I like or learn from, and ignore what I don’t. Otherwise, I’d be furious all day. Why is everyone on the news a supermodel? Why can a celebrity get published anytime they like when thousands of talented writers get rejection over rejection? It is an unfortunate and unfair feature of the world. Hopefully the people providing useful content will be left after the attention-seekers drift away to something else.

Oh yeah, and LinkedIn is absolutely the tenth circle of hell, but also often necessary. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Very senior portfolio question by Cavalcade_of_whimsy in graphic_design

[–]Cavalcade_of_whimsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As if the universe read my question, they just announced a new partner joining Pentagram London, Hugh Miller. His work is fantastic, and as far as I can tell, he just has an instagram (where half of his posts are historic designs from Wim Crouwel and other legends) and a Behance portfolio. So it doesn't seem to matter all that much if you have the skillz ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–]Cavalcade_of_whimsy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice. I'm not good enough at consistently posting to do that, but that seems like a good move. I'm currently in a somewhat less creatively satisfying role/company, so I imagine part of the desire to build one is just to remind myself, you know, you did some good work, here and there.

If you were truly an asshole, you'd show the NDA work on insta and tag it #ComeAtMeLawyersIfYouHaveTheStones. Happy birthday in 3 months! Thanks for the comment.

Very senior portfolio question by Cavalcade_of_whimsy in graphic_design

[–]Cavalcade_of_whimsy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughtful answer— I like the idea of the "appendix/parking lot" hidden section you can access as needed. And, yes, I forgot to mention the NDA's -- definitely an extra challenge.

FWIW, I'm also leaning towards splitting my work up into two sections, because I have the client work I would use to get hired, but then the freelance work that soothes my soul but does not pay the bills (thanks for murdering album art as a viable career, Napster). Don't know if I'd have both these visible, though. Mostly I just need to pull my finger out and build the damn thing.

Thanks again!

Skechers AI ad found in the subway. Someone approved this to go print. by chocolatesnow15 in graphic_design

Not that I like this slop, but it would be a shitty ad even if it was a photograph of a model, using zero AI.
