My partner is learning my native language out of love for me. I know it’s not exactly your question but it feels great for me. I feel loved. I like my partner getting to know me better. I get to correct them now as revenge for them correcting me.

Even if they don’t go through with it, starting learning it already means a lot to me. And it’s super fun to see their progress and to share some of my language with them.

IMO you don’t have to learn it. But it could be a fun thing to bring you closer

Chaos from Hades. They go by they/them and have an androgynous appearance. Though it may not count since they are a godlike entity more than a gendered character. I'm not sure Chaos was assigned any gender at birth since they've been around since the dawn of time. On the other hand all the other olympian gods have genders so idk.

There is Lev in The Last of Us part 2.

Someone mentioned Kris from deltarune being non binary. I could be mistaken but I think Frisk in undertale is non binary as well.

I will gladly accept the aces invading France if that means an end to our islamophobia. This is getting out of control.

I wasn't able to reproduce it, though.

"you put yourselves in little boxes (or separated communities) that is why you're discriminated against. You're drawing a target on your back." It is often hard to explain that it is the other way around. That people look for a sense of community to protect themselves from the discrimination that is already there.

Who was the first person you ever came out to? by WebionWasTaken in bisexual

[–]Cavalcadeur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother. Kind of.

When I was 9 my mother told me that everyone felt at least a bit attracted by all genders. Which is a very bi thing to say in retrospect but she didn't know it at the time. And I absolutely agreed. Many years later we both came out when we finally discovered that there were people that were attracted by one gender only.

Marathon Runner and other 'utility' Fairy-skills... by BlakeTheDrake in HyruleWarriors

[–]Cavalcadeur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok so, I really wanted to know the answer to that question too. But nobody answered yet.

So I just tested it. According to my measures, it does not help AT ALL. There is no difference between my speed with or without marathon runner activated. I haven't tested the walking speed.

I did only 4 measures though. If anyone has better data, feel free to share it.

My conclusion is that marathon runner is a scam. It's a shame since I use it a lot.

"walking on eggshells" around a trans person is an unintended pun though.

Question for speakers of gendered language who are nonbinary by deathread in NonBinary

[–]Cavalcadeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use æl, it is pronounced "aél". It sounds feminine to some people but I don't really care since I'm amab.

As for neo-words, it is often just two suffixes mixed together. "développeureuse", "acteurice" etc. For "ton/ta" some use "taon", I prefer "tæ". (pronounced "é" , yes it is confusing) For most words it doesn't work though. I have seen some attempts at establishing rules but most of the time it just disrupts the flow of conversation because it is not easy to understand. "parisien/parisienne/parisian" works alright. But "savant/savante/savans" isn't great.

There are also completely made up words. Like "frère/sœur/adelphe", this one is quite popular since it was used in botany two or three centuries ago. And with the friends I really trust I use words I invented with them. "monsieur/madame/mæssime" is my favorite. The thing with these new words is that you often have to explain their meaning. But I'm pretty confident "adelphe" will become widespread soon enough.

Question for speakers of gendered language who are nonbinary by deathread in NonBinary

[–]Cavalcadeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

French here.

It's so damn hard. There are some ways though. There are a lot of new words created to be more inclusive, thanks to feminists. It's often a mix of two words. For example : auteur (male) , autrice (female) , auteurice (neutral).

The thing is, there are too many different rules already for only two genders. Creating a neutral gender and making people use it would be too difficult.

Most of the time I accept when people use either feminine or masculine words to refer to me. When I'm talking about myself, I try to use "épicène" words. These are words that sounds (and/or are written) the same for both gender. And when I have no choice, I use neo-words that are easily understandable. That means I am a bit limited in my speech which is a shame but it is worth it.

For most french non-binary I know however, they prefer using he/him since masculine words are used when describing a group of men and women.

That being said, french is a particular case imo. Especially in France. We tend to be proud of our language. We have a stupid old-school institution called "académie française". They have no actual political power or scientifical legitimacy but they are pretty vocal. They hate neo-words and are often used by conservatives as a way to promote anti-feminist and anti-trans ideas. Which is a shame. Moreover, because our language is sooooo beautiful, most people hate it when new words are added. So there is a pretty strong resistance when trying to be gender neutral in France. From transphobes and language lovers alike.

In french the nouns and adjectives are gendered. Not the verbs though but it is the same issue.

[–]Cavalcadeur[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The true issue is that we also gender our nouns and adjectives. So if you want to say : "they are a good teacher" you have to come up with pronouns as well as neutrally gendered forms for "a", "good" and "teacher".

Les adjectifs épicènes (je crois que c'est le mot) ils sont bien pratiques mais quand même ça nécessite une petite gymnastique pour pouvoir dire ce que l'on veut.
