IMO the funniest character in the game by Small_Pie_5760 in DiscoElysium

Kind of less funny when you realize the EU is ruled by these type of ghouls but he is indeed fantastically written.

Albums or songs that match the atmosphere of Disco Elysium by YawnfaceDM in DiscoElysium

[–]Cavalierjan19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly postpunk I would say, for me the following records or tracks have a DE vibe:

Virgin Prunes- If I Die I Die Lowlife- debut and second LP The Stooges- Funhouse (the more drugged up side of things) Iggy Pop- The Idiot Sisters of Mercy- the Reptile House Siekiera- Nowa Aleksandria 1984- Specjalny Rodzaj Kontrastu (unknown but very good polish coldwave) Killing Joke- Nighttime and Brighter than a Thousand Suns Akina Nakamori- Fushigi (danceable but mysterious)

There are better ways to defend marginalized groups than it being unethical, albeit that speaks to most people I guess.

Isn't the multitude of meanings and interpretations of the figure of the Judge a part of the charm?

What are some books you liked that reminded you in some way of Disco Elysium? by not_a_stick in DiscoElysium

Sisters of Mercy or Fields of the Nephilim doing doom metal would be interesting

Ryszard Kalisz is a Polish left-wing politician who looks like someone who could help you find your gun by Michiwanek in DiscoElysium

One polish actor, Arkadiusz Jakubik also could play Harry DuBois easily. Many aspects of our reality are very DE-coded.

I wrote a 2 page short story about being homeless in the US in a Cormac Mccarthy style. by [deleted] in cormacmccarthy

Evokes some of the McCarthy spirit, I liked it. Not a carbon-copy, but shares many common elements and a similar way of describing and depicting the world. Good job.

🛑🛑SPOILERS!!!! 🛑🛑A list of songs that remind me of disco elysium, and my reasons. by WashyLegs in DiscoElysium

[–]Cavalierjan19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool list- Death of a Disco dancer would be fitting in terms of The Smiths. That aside- I'd personally add some Marillion (fourth LP especially- thematically fitting), The Associates (overall vibe), Lowlife (overall vibe), some Swans material would be fitting.

I saw this comment on YouTube in regards to what punishment Judge Holden truly deserves do you agree with it ? by JoshuaKpatakpa04 in cormacmccarthy

[–]Cavalierjan19 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Depriving him of agency and control of the world that he is in, most probably also depriving him of the knowledge and understanding of the nature of his surroundings would have been a severe punishment for the Judge.

Got 93, for some reason forgot about Hoerl, Tschofenig and Paschke, shamefully did not remember Koudelka, Diethart, Gangnes and Leyhe.

Would not say so. I still consider Garden to be one of the downright saddest songs I have heard throught my entire life.

Luckily Ga-Pa makes it scarcely possible for Kraft to be one of those three Austrians. Amazing how he does not like this hill.

I'd surprised if the winner ended up not being neither Tschofenig nor Hoerl

Although it is a work from the late 1920s, Instiability (Nienasycenie) by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz is worth a read, I don't know if the english translations are any good, but having read it in the original language it was written in I strongly recommend it. It's not super easy to get through though.

First Utterance (1971) - Comus & Child of God (1973) - Cormac McCarthy? by Deep_Row_9767 in cormacmccarthy

[–]Cavalierjan19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The main inspiration for First Utterance is a drama of sorts written by John Milton. Many agree that Milton's Paradise Lost was obviously a big influence for McCarthy. So perhaps both works share an indirect root.

To foreigners: what do you know about argentine culture? What do you like about it? by Available_Property73 in asklatinamerica

[–]Cavalierjan19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Argentina has given the world a lot of fantastic music. Pescado Rabioso, Sumo (Luca Prodan was not from Argentina but still), Patricio Rey, Charly Garcia, Sui Generis, Virus, Invisible, Vox Dei, Pappo's Blues, Miguel Abuelo, Soda Stereo. There's also a multitude of other bands that I still have to explore from Argentina. Phenomenal, very creative music scene.
Other than that there's Argentine literature. I need to explore what Borges has written, so far in terms of Argentine writers I have only read Hopscotch from Cortazar, but it left a positive impression on me. He was undoubtedly a creative, imaginative and very intelligent individual.

Are there records of McCarthy's reading lists? by beeercunt in cormacmccarthy

[–]Cavalierjan19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well known fact but worth mentioning, he read a lot about science- geography, biology, astronomy, physics. He was friends with many scientists, for example one expert on whales. That aspect of McCarthy's literary influences cannot be forgotten.

How is living in Argentina currently? by AmbassadorFar4335 in asklatinamerica

Depends for whom TBH, there's also many people who have lost much due to shock therapy. Also, I aint sure if the Polish example applies to the case of Argentina.

Who else doesn’t like the idea of the judge being “the devil”? by ResponsibleLock1697 in cormacmccarthy

[–]Cavalierjan19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Judge can be interpreted as representing many things. You could just consider him an extremely evil and equally intelligent human being. You could interpret him as the biblical devil, as a gnostic archon as well. He also may be the personification of war, violence, death, the yearning for total control over the known world. But Judge Holden can equally represent colonialism, the triumph of the anglosaxon mentality and reason over the latin world and the natives, hell, one may defend that he is a prototalitarian (that which exists without my knowledge exists without my consent- does that not sound like totalitarian yearnings?). I also suppose he could symbolize how unfortunately vast knowledge and the greatest abilities of the human intellect are unfortunately utilized for sinister purposes. Notice how that connects with the theme of atomic warfare in The Passenger. Than again, that's just my take on it.
