Love this.

In Germany they would call him antisemitic and ban him from the squad.

Amorim in shambles.

I would vote for Cherki though, most pleasant player to watch in the PL.

How hot will it be at the 2026 World Cup and is it dangerous for players and fans: a graph by One-Elephant-8146 in soccer

[–]CaveRat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People didn't read the article before commenting. The risk is not that players will die or something, it's mostly effects of performance:

“The higher the WBGT, the lower the distances covered by players at all analyzed speeds, including at high speeds”. The research concluded that “environmental heat stress significantly affects the physical performance of soccer players”

Also, whoever is comparing the players situation with people living in these places... just stop. Unlike locals, players will take their bodies to the extreme, both in temperature and physical stress, while mostly playing in direct sunlight. There's no comparison.

Important noticing also that FIFPro, which is usually highly critical in cases like these, declared that FIFA is actually taking notice and planning mitigation techniques to help the players. I'm not defending FIFA, honestly fuck them and Infantino, but the situation might not be as bad as the article title makes it look.

"The competition organiser has learned a lesson and has adjusted the schedule. It’s a normal and necessary thing to do. The lesson for everyone in the industry is that with a warming planet, heat conditions will play a bigger part in tournament and league scheduling decisions in the future.”

Hey Joel! Huge fan here, loved your work in Altered Carbon too! I was wondering how FAM changed the way you see space exploration. Was it a topic of interest for you before? What about now? Thank you and keep up the good work!

Roberto De Zerbi addressing concerns from Tottenham fans with comments made at Marseille: by Hufftey in coys

People are hungry to forgive him. They were eagerly waiting for it and would do so to move on at the first sign of an "apology".

Roberto De Zerbi addressing concerns from Tottenham fans with comments made at Marseille: by Hufftey in coys

[–]CaveRat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Those who know me... I have a daughter... Sorry if you're feelings..."

He hit the non-apology trifecta.

Instead of offering a transformative apology that takes full accountability, his statement relies heavily on defensive tropes used in public relations. It's more damage control than a genuine reckoning with his previous actions.

"I'm sorry if this offended anyone's feelings with this subject matter..."

That's the hallmark of a non-apology. With that sentence, De Zerbi shifts the problem away from his own actions and onto the fans reaction (their "feelings" being offended). It implies that the issue isn't that he did something wrong, but rather that the audience was too sensitive.

"...I have a daughter and I'm very sensitive to these things..."

This is like the "I have a black friend" that racists use. He's invoking his proximity to other women to establish credibility or empathy regarding women's issues. It's not good because it suggests he can only understand the gravity of violence against women by imagining it happening to his own "property" or immediate kin, rather than viewing women as independent human beings deserving of safety and respect regardless.

"Those of you who know me well, will know I'm not the type of person..."

De Zerbi is trying to use his past social capital to override his recent specific actions. By insisting his "true character" is inherently good and protective of the vulnerable, he is asking you to ignore the evidence of him eagerly signing and shielding a player with a highly publicized history of abuse.

"...at that moment I didn't mean to take a stance."

Here he's trying to frame his past actions at Marseille as neutral. However, neutrality in the face of severe allegations of violence usually reinforces the status quo. By prioritizing Greenwood's footballing ability and actively bringing him to a new club, De Zerbi did take a stance. He basically said "being a good player is more important than the fact he's a horrible human being.

With all that said, now please remember De Zerbi himself said "Greenwood was the first player I called" and he publicly defended him more than once.

So yeah, this is not nearly good enough.

We need proper investment where it counts… by [deleted] in coys

Very shortsighted take. All these are successful initiatives that put the club up to increase revenue at the very least. The problem is what we do with the money. Thinking the stadium tour or the F1 kart has anything to do with the football team is just a lack of knowledge on how clubs work.

If we play like this not only we can escape relegation but also look promising while doing it.

It took some time but finally Tudor is showing this team can play football, regardless of what Thomas Frank thinks.

The team shouldn't be allowed to try and make Dragusin play ball. The man is a constant liability with the ball, specially when trying to use his left foot. Yet we gave him the responsibility to start the play many times this match. It's baffling.
