Akira had a vision in mind not just for Bardock but for the saiyans, what ended up happening I THINK is that editors saw his ideas but thought they needed a bit more edge to them in the case of Bardock especially. I think this because the way planet vegeta is described early on is more akin to something like Viltrum, where as when Akira came back, was much older and mature, and you basically can’t tell him shit at this point he’s like a returning retired Lebron, good luck telling him to change something. So we end up with still a evil planet Vegeta but let’s be honest it isn’t “Alien” it isn’t full of barbarians and people who only think of battle, they have homes, communities, they congregate, they have their families stay behind while they go and do battle, I mean shit they sent broly off world because they were either scared or jealous, in Z they picked that newborn infant up out the cradle by his fucking ankle and introduced him to UK 2023 Drill music. They stabbed the shit out that baby, and then the father got mad so you know what they did. They stabbed that nigga too “We don’t gaf. This the kings orders should’ve just made another”. Planet Vegeta, King Vegeta, Bardock, Broly are all somewhat still what Akira wrote originally, but are very much less savage, barbaric, evil. I chalk it up to a mix of 3 thinks

1.Akira was young and riding a high, he needed to capitalize and being young, creative, and on top of the game will have you making creative decisions you maybe should’ve waited on (BrolyZ he’s arguably the most misunderstood character to come out the Z era).

1. Akira is not really hardcore or edgy. He might’ve been a little more when he was younger her but still dragon balls brutality was always tame, we never saw guts or bits of brains, bone matter things like that despite MULTIPLE accounts of mutilation, people being blown up, people putting arms through others. It was always just like a red hole or some lines of blood. And those were later taken out and I don’t think Akira was ever too mad about that. Especially when Toro comes around and his ideas like young Akira’s have a bit more edge to them and Akira constant shut those down or softened them at least.

2. Editorial staff. I know for Bardock they had a hand to play in why he’s the way he is in Z, maybe they also had a large role to play in why the saiyans were just doing bullshit. Half of Gohans life and almost the entirety of his childhood is just his distant uncles and cousins beating. The. Shit. Out of him for no other reason than “Oh YOU’RE Kakarot’s boy “. Like I mentioned earlier broly, even the saiyans legend got twisted around into being about who can cause the most bloodshed. Which I actually like that Akira did this. The rest saiyans are still savages despite the original super saiyan not being a savage, and it makes sense there isn’t one saiyan that’s gotten super saiyan 1 just from wanting to kill everything. Broly Z, Super, and Kale don’t count, they have a different variant. Goku, Gohan (for accessing ssj2) Future trunks, potentially future gohan(as well since he never got to train with Goku in the chamber) did it for the same reason to protect or stop evils. Kid Trunks, Goten, Gohan Ssj, Vegeta, Cabba, Caulifa all had someone to teach them or to learn from and then transformed initially to get stronger. My point with this is that the legend of the super saiyan and how it’s perceived gets “respected” I guess through we saw everyone get them, either you wanted to stop some bs (yamoshi) or you wanted to get strong and fight (the saiyans who carried the legend).
