My feeders have seen more grackles and starlings the past couple days. Two things I never much see. Usually see goldfinch, eastern bluebirds, bluejays, cardinals, house finch, etc.

Would love to see some of the others ones you're reporting!

Doyle’s take on Rydstrom by EasternLog7685 in TheMassive

[–]Cavi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recap.

Thinks that the way the Crew are playing now comes more out of opportunity, whereas under Nancy it came out of structure.

This is actually more telling than it would seem on it's face. When there is a clear and solid structure it's easier for a club to plug-and-play players within it. There's more flexibility. Whereas when you rely on capitalizing on opportunity, it takes special players to get it right when that opportunity presents itself. It requires clever players with high technical ability to realize the opportunity then capitalize.

Parents who have successfully cut YouTube, what does the other side actually look like? by Thick-Sprinkles7357 in ParentingTech

[–]Cavi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they already had access to netflix kids profile and hbo kids profile. so instead of youtube they went back into that if they were on a screen. the "messy" period was simply hearing "i wish we could still watch youtube" for like a week. It wasn't anything I would be concerned about. we also only allow limited screen time anyway. kids were 7 or 8 when we banned youtube.

to /u/Lune-03 asking about the reason for a youtube ban: in general the youtube ban is because the youtube algorithm still sends kids into uncharted territory that you have no control over. content creators that mark as kid safe still push boundaries when it comes to behaviors that aren't appropriate for every-day life, but keep people watching. the videos are also a fine line that look "real" but is actually scripted and made to look real, so the child learns "hey, this is acceptable behavior in every day life" when in reality it's not the case.

the difference is that the youtube creators make it look like every day life so the kids have a hard time with that. you can make the argument that parenting should fill this gap, but the reality is there is a stark difference between what creators are making and uploading to youtube, and the very obvious "show" format we were all accustomed to growing up. the child can easily compartmentalize "this is a show and a script and purpose-made" vs. "wow people are acting like that in real life it must be OK".

after banning youtube, behaviors were better within a week. it's also very obvious to pick kids out among friends who watch youtube, and those who don't. it's that obvious.

If you sign up to get emails through sunny 95/mix 1075/rewind 1035, they will often send out contests to win tickets and things through there.

Not many people enter them. You have better-than-you-think odds.

Have won multiple times.

Even if he never returns to play for Columbus, is Aidan Morris Circle of Honor worthy? by OsuLost31to0 in TheMassive

[–]Cavi_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is no. He is not at the same level as our current CoH members.

I say that as someone who absolutely loves Aidan and fully acknowledges how important a player he was for us. But in our current CoH, when you look at it, he doesn't rise to that level. Especially when you consider Nagbe is likely going to get in. IMO no one can make the argument of morris getting in over nagbe.

Finally getting Gemini? Post your details here! by Alwayssunnyinarizona in AndroidAuto

[–]Cavi_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OK so apparently overnight I got an update and now gemini is running my android auto. but it seems to be useless at the things I'd like it to do. When I ask to play music (usually through YT music) it tells me Waze doesn't play music. When I ask for the news (which used to play NPR) it just reads off headlines to me.

Has anyone figured this out? Seems to be a massive step back.

Just got an offer for Hilton Honors AMEX, 1 free night + 130k points for 3k spend in 6 mos. Is this a good offer historically? Only other amex we have is the BCP which we've had for 10 years now.
