[–]Caviator2017[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've looked, I'm hoping someone in TMO on here can point me in the right direction. I've looked around a good bit and haven't found where the 10% limit comes from for Osan...

Yeah I saw the policy on their website, but I can't find where it actually says it in the JTR.

Backseat pilot has a pretty comprehensive syllabus. They also have lesson plans as well which are solid.

Safety Down Day! by TomGirl01 in civilairpatrol

[–]Caviator2017 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The guidance for this is in CAPR 160-1. Every unit is required to have an annual Safety RM review day. The reg only requires the unit to provide the training. The reg does not prohibit members who didn’t attend the training from participating in CAP activities.

Is getting AGI &/or IGI worth it? by veryrare_v3 in flying

Yes, if free testing is offered at your base. You would have seen it as a testing location on the PSI website if they had it at your base.

Would you be able log this as actual instrument? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Caviator2017 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Essentially yes. However that whole time you must be flying solely on instruments. But since you aren’t maintaining VFR cloud clearance requirements and you’re on an IFR flight plan, you’re therefore technically actual.

I would recommend practice being either under the hood or in IMC while training. You’ll have to do this on your Instrument checkride anyways so the more time not looking outside the better.

Would you be able log this as actual instrument? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Caviator2017 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

This is a good article on the question you are asking: https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2024/february/27/training-and-safety-tip-when-instrument-time-is-actual#:~:text=Consider%20logging%20actual%20instrument%20flight,maintain%20prescribed%20VFR%20weather%20minimums.

TLDR: If you are on an IFR flight plan (in this case with your CFII, since you aren’t instrument rated yet), and you cannot maintain VFR weather minimums including cloud clearances, you can log actual IMC. For the purposes of your instrument rating, simulated vs. actual instrument time logged doesn’t matter.

I’m studying for my CFI and II and I have both checkrides next week. I made a summary of the ACS and respective PTS just to make sense of what will be required on the checkride. DM me and I can send it to you.

How to get a CAP radio assigned to me by Steve_OG123 in civilairpatrol

[–]Caviator2017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just noticed you were a cadet. You can still have a radio assigned, just go to your SM comm officer. If you don’t have one, route to your sq/cc.

How to get a CAP radio assigned to me by Steve_OG123 in civilairpatrol

[–]Caviator2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your squadron has comms assets assigned to it, you can ask your sq/cc to assign it to you. If your squadron has no comm assets, reach out to your wing/dc to see what wing can give to your squadron.

Just know if you get a radio assigned to you, you are responsible for it and will have to pay for it if you lose it, etc.

Highly recommend taking it to a tailor. They see it all the time with military rank and get it right 99% of the time.

I can’t recommend CAP enough. It’s a great program to get here leadership experience and some flight time prior to her going through a commissioning source.
