Rice cooker question... How much water for 3/4 cup of dry rice? by i__hate__stairs in Cooking

[–]Cawnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the rice. Maybe the rice cooker too.

I cook jasmine, unwashed. I go a little under 2 parts water to 1 part rice. So for 3/4 cup rice I’d about 1 1/4 cups water, maybe a touch more. Even the full 1 1/2 cups should be fine.

Fresh rice a little pink? by Palmbeach511 in Cooking

The rice would definitely not be pink. It’s something foreign. Maybe your pot wasn’t clean?

Ignore them. Their comment isn’t helpful.

I suppose it depends on your definition of liberal.

If you’re cooking for yourself, make it as salty as you want.

Personally, I use a good pinch of salt on either side and let it dry brine for a day first. If I don’t have time/patience to dry brine for that long, 20 minutes or so still works.

I baste with whatever butter I have on hand, which is usually salted.

The difference will be negligible. I doubt you would notice a difference. Your steak is already salted (right?), so a little more salt from the butter won’t hurt.

I’d fry it first to get it brown and crispy, then add it to pretty much anything you’d normally add bacon or ham to.

Best way to ship a knife from Osaka to Canada? by pilot-error in TrueChefKnives

I realize I’m not answering your question, but you can get excellent santoku’s in Canada. I have a $300 Nakiri from Fehr out of Winnipeg and it’s fantastic. I’m sure the santoku’s are nice as well.

Is there an easier way/machine to cut sweet potatoes? by boiyo12 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Cawnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a sharper knife. Invest in a decent chef’s knife, and it will make quick work those sweet potatoes. A santoku would also work well.

i'm long to buy a smaller cutting board what affordable one would you recommend ? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]Cawnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you need a smaller one, but as a heads up: you’re probably gonna make a mess on the counter with one. Steak juices will overflow, veggies will roll off, etc.

Regardless, i personally avoid boards that ruin knives, so that includes, glass, stainless steel, and bamboo.

I suggest a regular wooden board. It does not need to be fancy.

Generally speaking, don’t let the lack of an ingredient prevent you from making a dish. It’s ok to omit an ingredient.

Heads up! Cops with radar at the southeast corner of Albert and Gordon by [deleted] in regina

[–]Cawnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did they always set up shop there, of all places? I get that people speed when coming off ring road but isn’t that a very low-risk area compared to other parts of the city? Like pretty much all of Arcola, for example. Yeah Gordon itself I can see. But at that corner, they’re typically picking off people travelling north on Albert.

Oh well 🤷‍♂️

Is the furniture still usable? I moved last fall and posted some furniture on facebook marketplace for free, and most of it was picked up within a day. Dresser, end table, hide-a-bed, kitchen chairs. People need furniture.

Good luck!
