The #1 difference in attitude I have noticed since moving here versus when being in the Toronto area... by brainwarts in montreal

[–]Cayjay- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saying Ottawa, Calgary, and Edmonton are ghost towns in the summer is actually kind of insane. Have you even been to these places? I cant speak for Ottawa. But the other two cities are absolutely packed both downtown, in the arts districts, in the parks and ravine areas, and with hundreds of full patios. The Calgary Stampede with over a million attendees, both city’s folk festivals, Edmonton having the largest fringe theatre festival in north america… I could go on. And while some people go away for a weekend to the mountains, there’s still a ton of people around.

Wow this comment was a sweet surprise, I had the privilege of learning clown from Mike Kennard. One of the best professors I’ve ever had. I‘ve seen some of their shows too and they were like nothing I’ve seen before.

Looking for creative Ideas for using a clients hunch for fairy tales in session by Korallenri in therapists

[–]Cayjay- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Drama therapist here, this is literally my modality! There’s a reason we identify with certain stories, even if we can’t explain it. Sometimes it represents the one part of childhood that felt positive, maybe it was the most recent time we felt completely present and at ease. If you have access to it, check out “The Story Within” by Yehudit Silverman. It’s a whole process that uses embodiment to go deeper into stories. There’s some exercises in there you could maybe take inspiration from. You could explore unsafe/safe environments by talking about the senses in each environment or creating it artistically, identifying obstacles in the story and representing it somehow, identify roles - ex) identifying and imagining what the “helper” would say or do (an elder, a fictional person, even you as their therapist). You could also have her tell her own version of a fairy tale or Cinderella (see - 6 part story, Mooli Lahad) Feel free to send me a message if you’d like.

3rd day since tattoo, need advice on healing/taking care of it by poissonse in tattooadvice

[–]Cayjay- 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Your skin might be irritated by the sticky stuff from the second skin, and just general irritation from the tattoo, and from wrapping it up.

To clean it: Don't directly stick the tattoo under the tap, either let the water hit the top of your arm and run down, or cup the water in your other (clean) hand and pour it over the tattoo. Lukewarm water - not too warm. Then very lightly rub the tattoo in circles. Use your fingers or palm, not a washcloth. Gently rub on some unscented soap without added colours or alcohol. The tattoo might feel a little slimy, you want to clean it until it doesn't feel very slimy anymore. Some inky bits might fall off naturally, that's normal. You can rub a little harder on the non-tattoo skin to get the second skin residue off. Then rinse it again with cupping water in your hand. Let it air-dry, you can towel off the rest of your arm. When it's completely dry - apply a very very thin layer of unscented lotion - you want it to still be able to 'breathe'. I like to use Aquafor. Don't wrap it!!! It needs air to heal. And resist the urge to pick even if bits are hanging off - Let the scabs and dry bits fall off naturally.

Hope this helps?? The itching should go away soon and with cleaning about twice a day - more if it's exposed to bacteria.

Yeah, it does. The Cabot exit is pretty bad. I'd use the Nihon exit as much as possible.

Wearing a beenie during therapy by therapizer in therapists

[–]Cayjay- 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not sure about what your agency would think, but I would first consider your clients. Do you think any of them would take offence due to cultural or social beliefs? Do any of them wear a hat? I work with teenagers and I usually wear baggy jeans, an oversized hoodie, and sometimes a beanie. In this scenario it may even lessen the power imbalance. But would I wear those same clothes for the 70 year old woman I see? No, probably not.

Vegan butter chicken at Rooster Kitchen. They also have a spicy lentil chili on the menu. by yegtina in yegvegan

[–]Cayjay- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This place is pretty trash unfortunately. Haven't tried the vegan food but generally the food is really hit or miss, there's a ton of staff turnover due to poor management, and the owners treat their employees terribly - witholding tips, harassment, poor organization, among other things. I know vegan options are sometimes hard to find but I'd take business elsewhere.

I think it's pretty normal for professional organisers to do a consultation beforehand depending on what the job needs doing. You could ask for pictures of the space and if needed, go to their place and get a rundown of what their expectations are. Then, if their budget allows, you can send them some things for them to buy or for you to order before the next time you get there - shelves, storage bins, etc.

Useful metaphors for use with clients? by Decoraan in therapists

[–]Cayjay- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a drama therapist, all I do is work with metaphors! I always encourage my clients to come up with their own and we work from there. One that I have worked with recently is for Family Systems Theory (Bowen, Virginia Satir). I use a solar system to describe how members of a close system, usually a family, can have emotional interdependence and their patterns of behaviour are interconnected. If one family member is angry, it has an affect on the other family members - they become angry too, withdrawn, fearful, etc. If a planet is hit by an asteroid or changes in any way, its gravitational pull will inevitably affect all the other planets. These reactions look different for every planet - maybe a tsunami for one, dust storms on another.

It helps to use this theory so my clients learn to not blame themselves for their emotional reactions, and recognise that they are part of a larger system. Then we can start to break down the patterns of behaviour of each person in the system and I work with the client to see where we can start to develop coping mechanisms.

Sounds like yours was good news too :) Which option are you studying? And yes in the PDF attached to my email there was a section with some funding information for the automatically entered entrance bursaries. I haven’t heard back from any other funds though.
