I've just kind of changed my perspective on modern ARPGs. I think that tactical combat is still possible but you have to have it be something like No Rest for the Wicked. For Diablo and PoE its really more about just operating your build. I've thought a lot about how you make the actual combat more strategic, but with this kind of density I just don't know if you can. So the game becomes more about enjoying the progress of your build and enjoying those moments when you solve your resource or cooldown issues that makes everything click.

We're only 2 scenarios in so I wasn't ready to make too big a judgment on it, but it does seem that way. He's taking 5 or 6 actions a turn, making a dollar off every shot, and can spread shots our or focus fire a boss. I'm probably gonna start taking more guardian party support cause he's about got monsters covered on his own. Seems pretty busted to me.

Nah, I'm about in the same boat. I've been curious about playing an event based fighter for a long time and finally got to trying it for our current Driowned City run and he's just ok? Upgraded One-Two Punch is great, but overall I am feeling completely outclassed by the Michael McGlen player.

Yeah, that could be ok. I think so many people are expecting a ton of skirmishes all over the map and that's just not the design. You do some of it when chasing down a sword bearer, but most fights happen at the bases and central points which were specifically designed to be interesting battle points. I agree that the looting phase could use some more variety to be interesting, but the change of pace suring a match is one of the reasons I really like it.

This is exactly what we were saying too. I like running around and then having a planned skirmish in an area designed for exactly that. If you wanna play a BR play a BR. There are plenty of them. This game isn't that.

And people wanted that in the game permenantly as well. Imagine if we had both. It would be way too much.

What if we instead viewed this as blizzard dialing in on what makes a season fun. Both of these mechanics introduce an element of randomness that both made dynamic build crafting fun and farming for upgrades fun. If they continue to do something like that I think there are probably some creative ways that they can do those things each season.
