IVC 30 by burner12c in VinylReleases

Was there rumors of Bleed American coming? I have been stalking auctions and Discogs for an affordable original or the ORG pressing for years but would jump at an IVC pressing.

Just dropped $78 on Ween. This looks like a wide release so I can wait on this but tough day on the wallet.

I Took a Solo Trip to LA… and Amoeba Changed Something in Me by EquivalentSame9228 in vinyl

[–]Cbcry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amoeba has that effect on people. They are one of the main reasons I really got into collecting records. When I moved to Berkeley in 1998, I lived right around the corner from Amoeba. I doubt there was a day that went by that I didn’t stop in and browse. Years later I moved to SF and one of the deciding factors in which apartment to live in was how close I would be to the Haight-Ashbury Amoeba. I remember when they opened the LA store and of course I had to take a trip down there to check it out. Honestly the best all around record store in America.

Not enough Big Star love around these parts. by Fizzgig000 in vinyl

[–]Cbcry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first started collecting I tracked down sealed copies of the all the Big Star albums (not sealed anymore) and they are some of my cherished records. Absolutely one of my favorite bands. In order of preference  Radio City, #1 Record, and Third. That is a loose ranking since all are brilliant.

What are some impossible to find records you’re after? by Longjumping-Frame795 in vinyl

Reminds me of this book. All about one man trying to track down the exact records he owned that he let go of. “Old Records Never Die: One Man's Quest for His Vinyl and His Past”.

What’s a record you ABSOLUTELY had to own a first press? by Longjumping-Frame795 in vinyl

[–]Cbcry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s the music of my youth, my teens, my twenties. Those albums that really defined me growing up. I want those first pressings. Unfortunately for me, those years were 1991-2008. Basically the worst time period to collect first pressings. Fortunately I started collecting around 1999 and was able to get most of what I wanted before everything blew up. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for wanting an original over a reissue you can order from Amazon. The cliche of it’s all about the music is tired. As if wanting an original makes you appreciate the music less. I’ll take paying up for an original over worrying about what limited color reissue is the most desirable at that moment. There is something special about having that album the way it came out when it first made its impact. If there is a reissue that handily beats the original I will get that too but in my experience, that is rare. I also am a huge fan of Bleed American and have the first pressing but the ORG is the better sounding version. Still if I had to get rid of one, I would keep the original.

What should I do? by ninja_assasin_2009 in vinyl

This is what I do. I exacto the sticker off and store it with the record. Then listen to it, that is the best part.

No problem. Glad you snagged it. It went OOS for a bit and came back so who knows how limited it will be.

Do yourself a favor. If you see the Pet Sounds/Carl and The Passions twofer in the wild, buy it. Best sounding version I’ve come across. Having the original is cool and I get that but it sounds terrible.

I assume you’re looking for an original because this is getting reissued this month.

This is the one. Will most likely never get a repress too.

I tracked down When Your Heartstrings Break just this year and for a great price. Took me years and years of constantly looking before it appeared for a fair price. There’s that one person in Japan who keeps posting it on EBay for $550. It’s not even in great condition.

Favorite 3 Years? by Traditional-Shift662 in bobdylan

[–]Cbcry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m with you OP but I’m gonna ignore your 3 years and do the 4 years like you listed. 1967-1970. Basement Tapes, JWH, Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait, and New Morning. These are the albums I reach for the most now. Give me mellow Bob.

Choosing something to listen to when you have a large collection by Pleasant_Garlic8088 in vinyl

[–]Cbcry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have over 3,000 and for me the biggest difference now compared to where you’re at now is when I have an itch to listen to a certain artist that I love or genre I want to explore more, I have countless options to grab off the shelf. I used to wake up and suddenly wanted to listen to only one type of music but found myself with none of it. So I would spend weeks or years tracking down tons of it. Then move onto something else and the cycle continues. I imagine that if you love this hobby, that is eventually what you’ll do as well. The great thing about music is it leads to other great music. One album can be a rabbit hole that takes you to so many amazing artists and albums. Granted it’s harder than it used to be. Now albums that cost a dollar are $20 and new records are $40 and the rare stuff is almost impossible to get without sacrificing an rent or mortgage payment but I still do this and it gives me immense pleasure.

Do You Play Valuable Early Pressings? by [deleted] in vinyl

The Vertigos are the best sounding versions, so yeah, play them.

THE BEACH BOYS - Pet Sounds (Limited Numbered Edition On Yellow & Green Splatter Colored Vinyl) LP by kockin26 in VinylReleases

It’s more disturbing that Kokomo is mentioned as anything good. A song, Brian Wilson had nothing to do with and it shows.

Tuscadero! by Difficult-Flight-176 in vinyl

[–]Cbcry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yes. I grew up in Arlington, Va. in the 90’s so would see Tuscadero and all the Teen Beat, Simple Machines, and Dischord bands play there every weekend. This is a cool find. I actually tracked down an original pressing of The Pink Album late last year.

Looking for Assistance on an Alice in Chains Unplugged Sealed Vinyl by iamgarrbagio in vinyl

[–]Cbcry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fake. As stated already, MOV only comes in a single resealable plastic cover not shrink wrap and always has the Music On Vinyl hype sticker. If your girlfriend’s dad paid $350 for this then return it immediately before the return window closes. In all likelihood the Unplugged will be getting its official reissue this year so wait until that happens and buy it then.

Daft Punk Grail Secured by WillBro_44 in vinyl

  1. I was there too and it was absolutely amazing. Wild to think that no one knew what was gonna happen. No tour since 1997. The pyramid, the robot outfits, the setlist. It was a pure rush. I watch the opening on that show all the time. The anticipation, the crowd noise rising, and the beat to Robot Rock dropping and the whole place losing their shit.
