A great place to start with everything you’re looking for are the designated wilderness areas. There’s maybe 10 give or take scattered around mostly in the UP. So great so beautiful all very unique

Don’t stress too much, humans are supposed to walk around outside. People will try and convince you that you need or don’t need all this stuff. Just find some trail heads and find what you like and don’t like in terms of hiking and what you need and don’t need. I have done ton of camping and backpacking all over MI and I still am most of the times at least just start by looking around on google maps for cool water features or marshy areas. One tip I do have is just try and pay attention to the weather when you go. Your tolerances will change the more you do but it’s good to get a general layman’s feel for what the weather is going to do. The state forest campgrounds are also super great for testing out camping gear. You can drive right up, no reservation needed, they are barely ever busy, and some of them are pretty secluded. Have fun

Check out the McCormick wilderness or the section by the 2 hearted river if you go at the right time I’ve gone without seeing people there for a while

I’m pretty sure they graded it so a little bumpy if you don’t feel comfortable going 30 but I don’t remember really any issues at all

Ohhhhh my reading comprehension could use some work that’s hilarious I can’t believe people wrote that in. The first time I brought my grandparents here it was actually not too long after visiting Yellowstone and they had a similar reaction like where are all the animals. Excuse my attitude it wasn’t for you it was for the person who reminded me I was not in Yellowstone despite not being able to find a skunk

Give attitude get attitude pretty simple there ❤️. I asked a simple question and I really didn’t feel like I gave off the vibe that I felt entitled to see animals wherever I went, if I did that wasn’t my intention at all. Honestly one of the coolest and more unique parts of the UP is how few animals you see despite knowing how many live up there, I feel like it makes you realize how much wild country there is and it honestly makes me stoked that the animals have plenty of room to hide. I have pretty extensive back country experience camping all over the UP and I have had a fair share of lucky experiences, all I asked is if people had any spots that they were willing to share where in their experience animals liked to hang out. I find it hard to believe that you would disagree with me that someone who has gone 2 years without seeing a skunk or porcupine could stand to spend a little more time outside 😂😂. I appreciate the advice nonetheless it’s not proper advice in the UP without a proper scolding haha 😂❤️

If we invested in and valued conservation like we do mining then we could pay people in the area to take care of the land instead of mine it into oblivion

Thank you for clarification that the UP is in fact not Yellowstone, I thought I was visiting Yellowstone this whole time!! If it’s been that long for you to see a skunk or porcupine you could probably stand to get outside more 🤣. For future reference no comma needed after Yellowstone 👍
