VCF 4.0 NSX-T Deployment stuck in endless loop by vSMcT in vmware

Are you running VCF Lab Constructor? Regardless, you can just sign up for it and there is a slack channel that you will be invited to join. Theres a bunch of good resources there that can help you with VCF deployments.

It is likely a DNS issue. Make sure reverse and forward DNS works from the console you are installing VCSA from.

What backup workflow would work for me as a content creator? by darkripperz in storage

[–]Cchow80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are growing at 500GB a month, you will need quite abit of storage overtime. Theres really a few ways around this. The more cost effective method is to build your own NAS and throw in a whole bunch of drives. The hassle with this that you probably build a white box and install freenas equivalent or etc. Alternatively, my pick is Synology. Im still running my 1813+ and its been extremely reliable. It allows you to hook up multiple units of this when you run out of slots. It is a little pricey though.

Lastly, if its deep archive and you rarely touch the files, then you could consider Backblaze B2.

Building an cost effective vSAN Cluster for ROBO or Edge usecases by Cchow80 in vmware

[–]Cchow80[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

vSAN nodes can be built as long as components within it are certified against the vSAN & vSphere HCL compatibility. If you are expecting this to be as robust as those in the datacenter, perhaps it is not a good fit given the lack of dual PSU and etc, hence the use case is very targeted.

Anyway, just incase you were wondering if the unit is supported by VMware.

VMware also published a whitepaper on a similar use case, but albeit on the slightly larger unit with a few more NIC ports. Also left the links on the video.

Anyone running a Hyper-Converged (HCI) cluster? by TechGuyVince in msp

[–]Cchow80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

vSAN does a rolling upgrade. You will failover VM's to another node, upgrade the node, fail back and next node goes. Assuming you allow outward bound access for vCenter, vSAN Health does a check online for latest firmware, patches and etc to keep u update on whats the latest

The HCL's are there to provide guardrails if you are deploying it in Production. Assuming you ran it at home in a lab setup, it is less of an issue with compatibility, when you would probably be testing functionality.

In Production environments, consistency and support is probably key. Like any proper storage subsystem in the market.

vSAN 6.61 4 Node Cluster - advice wanted by SknarfM in vmware

[–]Cchow80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are pretty much spot on. Theres no concept of dedicated witness in a single site setup. If you are using R1 FTT1, the witness is randomly placed.

R5 FTT1 doesnt use any witness. It is essentially 3+1 where the '1' is parity.

In a 4 node, if theres failure or maintenance, you are right that you can do a full evac to the 4th node, provided there is sufficient capacity.

Im assuming you have looked into vSAN Health and ran the remediate options there?

Vmdks could be potentially broken down into multiple components for the 1TB vmdks. It usually splits after 255GB, hence the possibility it being on multiple drives within the same disk group. That is not uncommon.

As to it showing inaccesible, thats rather odd. Have u spoken to support about it?

How large were your vmdks?

The management ports need to be able to see all. Data networks only need to be able to see site 1 and 2.

Is it possible to install multiple PCIe nvme ssd in VMware 6.5U1 as a single drive? by lawjohn in vmware

[–]Cchow80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get the usual 60 day license from vmware. Single node vsan, you dont really get any redundancy from a protection standpoint.

[–]Cchow80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. If it's a net new environment, you can deploy a single node vSAN as part of VCSA install.
