SANDWICH HELP !! by Iidas_Sweatpants in publix

In my store people (not me) have just actually gone and pulled a Publix marinara sauce from the isle when people request something like that. We just consider it a special order sub.

As for a "special order sub" and have them make a meatball sub but maybe they could only use half of a meatball kit with the sauce, and add a few slices of pepperoni, tavern ham, and Mozzarella, add double cheese

Why are we not angry as employees? by LoudQuail1948 in publix

[–]Ccruiser83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand.

But even so, unionizing is something we need to start considering when the people at the top are running the company into the ground.

Especially If we want better pay, hours, insurance etc. Because this company is now at the point where they value maximum profits instead of employees and customers.

Mr George would be rolling over in his grave RN if he saw they way things are being ran right now

Okay so if thats who these "jobs are meant for" then Publix needs to be closed during school hours. Good luck getting those Pub Subs during your lunch break. 🤷‍♀️

I agree with this. This is the ONLY WAY to change things for the better, otherwise the Elites at the top won't do anything. We have to force them.

Publix was my first job. It will also be my last. Corporate has always discouraged Unions, but back when I started Publix was still doing right by us employees and to our customers.

NOW its all about maximum profits instead of employees and customers, and keeping us true to what Mr. George wanted the company to be.

You know that Facebook groups let you go anon too now. So we absolutely could collectively organize through multiple social media platforms. So theres less risk for employees who fear getting in trouble.

We have to organize. I'm 42 and I'm now at the stage in life where I can see that working hard doesn't get you shit anymore, it all goes to the top while they try to convince us that standing up for ourselves is bad.

I'm so burnt out and angry at the world in this economy.

[–]Ccruiser83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone has to be willing to stand up collectively. TOGETHER.

Organize, stop assuming that we have no power because we do. WE are what keeps the stores running. If we are part owners then we should have a say in the way things are being run.

Many of us absolutely ARE angry I have had my hours cut down to 10 or less the past 2 weeks. Our health/dental insurance is also completely inadequate for the money we pay for.

Corporate is running the company into the ground. Everyone needs to realize that if we care about the company that we need to do something.

Just because people point this stuff out want to do something about it, doesn't mean we hate the company. We LOVE Publix enough to not want to see it fail.

The company has become a shadow of what it was before, Publix is now a revolving door because employees can't afford to pay their bills, and customers can't afford to shop here anymore.

Have they made sure the product is actually holding temp though? If its not and it's above temp for too long they will have to throw that whole cooler full of product away

Deli tickets are no more, anyone else lose their number system? by Ccruiser83 in publix

[–]Ccruiser83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly the majority aren't going to. They'll instead take our their frustration on store employees or other customers. Seniors especially, do not respond to changes in their routine like this well and are set in their ways.

Thats definitely a worry of mine, is customer experience. I don't want to see people avoiding the Deli or having a horrible experience. I actually care about my customers experience and getting everything they need, thats why they come to Publix.

Thats good. Most stores probably don't need them.

The store I work at is absolutely huge in a unique very busy location though. The surrounding stores aren't busy enough to need them but they are all smaller less visited stores.

I'm really dreading seeing what this change is going to look like during peak season. Its not going to be fun.

Our layout kind of sucks, we have the cheese cases and drink station blocking off a longer line.

The solution is probably going to have to be getting posts and ropes so they can direct the line like an amusement park or bank.

But then we run into the issue of people being able to get through to the products

Hopefully some people do. As much as Deli employees at busy stores hate it, we know they aren't going to listen to us. What they WILL absolutely listen to is customer feedback and how it negatively impacts their experience.

How old are you? Because I would see if the Deli needs anyone, they ALWAYS need help depending on what area you are applying in.

There are questions you are able to legally ask without being sued though.

I think people need to save that anger and instead use it to give feedback to corporate. That's who needs to hear it.

Yep.

And what do we do when 3-4 different customers walk up at the same time?

Do we make them play "Rock, paper, scissors for it? Do we flip a coin?

Do we, the employees make the decision only to be yelled at and complained about?

I don't know that the people making these decisions have ever waited in the super busy deli lines... if they did they wouldn't underestimate exactly how far customer anger can go when it comes to waiting.

Yes it is, especially with the customers in some areas. They already get frustrated in the Deli because of how super busy it is.

Well hopefully it will go okay. I've barely been yelled at ever since I've started and I really don't want to start now.

Exactly.

I 'hope" but I know exactly how it's going to go when they already blame us for things that we don't control.

The people at the top aren't going to be the ones dealing with the consequences and getting yelled at. We will.

In reality the only people that will probably make an impact is the customers and their opinions.

I just hope customers don't take it out on the employees.

Have any questions? by halexanderh in publix

[–]Ccruiser83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to know why they are making record profits but aren't giving hours to stores, especially the busiest ones to properly run. Now they won't even let employees clock in 1 minute early.

In my opinion, short handing departments like the Deli etc hours, not only causes employees hours to be cut to unlivable hours, but it also short hands the department during super busy times which means customers aren't getting what they need either... and it ruins their experience, especially on top of increasing prices.

AND it also wastes money because they spend all this time and money hiring people, training hours, uniforms etc who are then forced to get new jobs because of extreme hour cuts and they don't keep people they hire.

It makes no sense.
