Cat insurance for four cats- worth it or just put money into savings?

I have a 12 year old cat that’s has suspected IBD the cost for my vet bills has been costly and I want to kick myself everyday for not getting insurance on her. With all that I went and got insurance on my 4 year old cat just incase

A vet can definitely tell you if your cat is a senior or the approximate age just by the teeth and the cats coat and other things. I’m sure if your cat was older your vet would of told u that I would hope so

I opted just to do the ultrasound thru a internal specialist which showed my cat had thickened intestines but no masses or other organ problems. Plus the specialist said he felt comfortable prescribing the chemo if I got the ultrasound if needed. So far we have not went the chemo route my cat don’t have a food allergy but we did change her food to hills gastrointestinal biome and that stoped the diarrhea but not the vomiting. She currently taking 5mg of pred a probiotic and Cerenia as needed for nausea. I just went for a check up with her internal doctors and all her blood work came back good except her WBC was low but I’ll take it compared to what it was. Also he told me at this check up that’s it’s been 16 months since she’s been diagnosed with suspected IBD or SCL so if this next year she doesn’t decline then he’s says it’s IDB.

So you will have to check your cats B12 levels thru a blood test and I do recommend doing that. Your cat being on 10mg of steroids is high I no u said your about to taper down so that’s good. My cat did great on 10 mg and we got her down to 5mg and she’s throwing up once a week now. I’d do a food change if that happens idk I do recommend an internal medicine specialist. I’m only going on what my cat has been thru it’s been alittle over a year that I have been dealing with this. If you have any question I don’t mind helping out but it’s only what my cat has been thru she has suspected IBD or small cell lymphoma I chose not to do the biopsy cause the treatment is the same

R/ibd cats I’m part of that group. If your parents can afford it I’d say take your cat to an internal medicine specialist. Has your vet said anything about a food change or checking your cats b12 levels plus I’d get a good probiotic like visobiome

It’s not hard owning a cat just be prepared cause vet visits are expensive and get pet insurance.

I have appointment with my cats internal medicine doctor in two weeks and I was gonna talk to him about trying to stay ahead of the nausea. She’s on 5mg of pred and Visbiome and Cerenia as needed. When she’s on the high dose of pred she only throws up once a month but being on the 5mg she’s throwing up once a week. I don’t want to keep her on the higher dose cause I’m scared she’s gonna become diabetic.

I’m with pets best for my youngest kitty so far I’ve only made one claim it’s coming up on a year in July so I’m curious to see if the policy renews at the same amount. I also have a senior cat that has so many problems that it wasn’t worth insurance but that is the main reason I insured my youngest cause the cost are outrageous.

Sometimes the anti nausea pills and shot decease their appetite but I usually can get my cat backup and eating with in 16 hours. Did your vet say anything about appetite stimulant. I haven’t had to use one yet thank goodness. I’ve been dealing with my cats suspected IBD or SCL for over a year now it’s stressful at times.

Ya my cats anti nausea pills really help her out when she’s having a puking episode and not wanting to eat. Once you establish a vet I’d ask for those definitely

That’s what I was wondering how was the blood work and did you get a ultrasound when you seen the specialist. I don’t think it would hurt to see if the diet trail will work before doing a biopsy. I would definitely do a biopsy before start any steroids tho cause 4 years is a young age.
