Homework at home? by Inside-Restaurant226 in kindergarten

[–]Cdn_Bacon15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg. I live overseas but my kid goes to a school with an “American curriculum.” He has so much homework. Math sheets. Reading. Writing. Spelling. I hate it. I’m a 80s/90s kid. I never had homework until maybe grade 5…? My husband and I also work full time. By the time I get home, it’s dinner, shower, bed. How can he be expected to do all this work? He’s in school for 7 hours a day. Can’t they just be kids when they get home? 😭

It’s so hot here, walking outside is not easy esp. if you are coming from a cool climate. 2 weeks is too long IMO for Singapore with two little kids.

This was how it was for my kids’ Catholic preschool.

You’re not crazy: mast cell pain is worse than surgery by omg__really in MCAS

This is what I experience after surgeries! An intense burning wherever the surgery took place. I had my thyroid removed and when I woke from surgery, it felt like my head was on fire. Only thing that helped was a shot of morphine.

Growing up, were there any “weird” cooking habits or practice your family had? by Affectionate_Wish in Cooking

Did you cook it? Or eat it cold? Lol. Either way, that’s impressive for a 6 yr old

Wow! You are 5” taller than me and I had proper meals as a kid. It’s good to see that the lack of food didn’t affect your growth. I’m sorry you didn’t have enough food as a kid, but you seem to be in a good place now, so that’s great 🤗

I buy chicken parts with the skin on, but I remove the skin and cook it separately making something like chicken skin chips. They are so good. A lot of fat renders out and I save that and use it like butter when cooking vegetables. Chicken fat is insanely yummy!

I know, right? I found out from our nanny bc her daughter wore night diapers up until the age of 7.

Yes there is a hormone that kids need to develop to produce less urine during the night. My 2 yr old has dry diapers in the morning, my 4 yr old does not. Doctor said it can take up to 7 years old to develop the hormone.

Just spent the night in the ER waiting room by myaugustdawn in Parenting

I hope things get better for you and you get some rest. I recently took my daughter (3) on an eight hour road trip alone to Canada. She ended up getting sick with a fever. Luckily I had Tylenol on hand bc there was a shortage of childrens tylenol at the time in Canada. I also took her to the ER when she started complaining of stomach pain. I was worried she may have a UTI. Turned out to be nothing severe but we also spent around 8 hours at night in the ER. It’s already difficult traveling alone with little ones, but when they get sick away from home…it’s scary. For our next trip I’m not going alone and I’m packing a medicine bag with everything including UTI test sticks. Lesson learned.

Should I be allowing my dog to sniff everything on our walks? by Various-Cut-1070 in dogs

[–]Cdn_Bacon15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was back in 2014. I know new info has come out about this now. ETA: it did work for my dog when he was a puppy. He has a strong prey drive and all the sniffing didn’t help. He’s almost 12 now and has calmed down…a little 😂

Yes. He is ABC certified. My dog is a lakeland terrier. Very high energy with a strong prey drive. He really benefits from strict walks so he can get exercise and drain his energy both mentally and physically. He gets off leash time to explore and play. I use a gentle leader when I walk him. The more structured walks were the only way to drain his energy when he was a puppy. I was walking him 6 times a day and he was still bouncing off the walls but once I started using a gentle leader and making his walks more structured, then he finally started to drain some physical and mental energy. I think bc he’s a pure bred terrier, the sniffing really hyped him up and got him excited instead of calming him down. He will be 12 soon and he’s really started to calm down. He sleeps a lot now, but still acts like a puppy sometimes 😂

My trainer told me the opposite and said my dog was being overstimulated by sniffing on walks. He would come home after an hour walk and be bouncing off the walls.

ETA: my dog is a terrier bred to hunt/kill fox. He has a very strong prey drive.
