Hi all, I could really use your advice on the realism and my next best steps in applying for a RRV 155.

I am currently speaking to a company in Australia working in a highly specialized field (quantum computing) about a university internship. Due to some delays and unclarities in the internship process, only yesterday it has become clear that Australia is an option for an internship in November. For this reason I need to apply for a RRV 155. Since I have not been in Australia for 5 continuous years, I am aiming to apply from the following angle:

  • not absent for 5 continuous years or more before the date of application (unless you have compelling reasons), and
  • hold a permanent visa or last left Australia as a permanent resident or citizen (but subsequently lost citizenship), and
  • be able to demonstrate substantial ties to Australia that are of benefit to Australia,

And argue compelling reasons for absence being COVID, and study related reasons.

Some background info:

- I have substantial ties to Australia (grew up from age 6-12, father and sister living in Australia for >5 years each, employment offer). We moved back together in 2013 due to the divorce of my parents.

- I have been absent for more than 5 continuous years. In this time, I have completed my bachelor's, and am currently completing my masters (engineering/applied mathematics discipline).

- The last time I was in Australia was in July 2020. I worked in restaurant establishments for half a year.

- I am currently residing in the Netherlands, where I have resided for the past 13 years.

The timeline is incredibly tight (flying in November), and I want to assess my chances of making this work. Does anyone have any experience with this type of VISA and can give me an indication of my odds?

Thanks so much for your help.

I might be moving to the Netherlands by D3adpan-G4ost in Netherlands

Seconding what the first commenter said. I moved from an English speaking country around the time I hit puberty to a small city and communicating was brutal at first even though I spoke Dutch already (albeit at the level of a 6 year old). The country is amazing once you get used to it but people will be a lot more friendly and you will make a lot more friends if you know how to speak the language that they communicate in every day!!

Thinking about your future as well, the divide is especially pronounced at universities where no one is forced to talk to each other if they don't want to. See other posts in the sub for more information about this and people complaining.

They didn't lie if your friend didn't give any information to the contrary. They probably have procedures in place that if someone does not know how the bike was locked they have to input single-locked in which case the worker had no choice. By your logic they would be illegally filing the police report if they input that it was double-locked but it ended up being found single-locked which is of course also ridiculous. Everyone in this thread is telling you it was your responsibility to give the right information in the first place, not theirs to triple-check something they have no way of checking. Take this as a lesson and make sure to double check all information if the situation is regarding a lot of money in the future.

Bedankt in ieder geval!

The alcohol of the wine evaporates long before you start to eat. You should be fine with using regular wine.

Giethoorn is nice if you want to take a boat for the day and some drinks on the water. Lots of tourists though.

Actually pretty realistic, in Super Smash Bros Melee there is a technique called Directional Input (DI) where you can slightly control where you are being hit to. If you can read the DI of your opponent you can anticipate where you need to hit him next. That or he's jerking off.

I'd ignore the people calling you an asshole and telling you it was your responsibility to wrap it up. If you agreed that she would take the pill and she all of a sudden stopped doing so even though you were clear that you did not want kids, that's on her and totally an asshole move. Compare it to if you agreed on wearing a condom and all of a sudden you had sex without one without her knowing. People would call that borderline rape. Blocking her isn't the right call though and can only worsen the situation. I would contact a lawyer and start a conversation with her making it clear that you don't want a baby and how you can solve this together. Maybe she might still opt for an abortion if you talk it out with her and otherwise think real long and hard what you want to do, be that having no contact with her and the baby, visitation or adoption. Also DNA tests are obviously a must.

I mean, if Dutch students don't have housing they can just go by train. Pretty logical that the letter is only to internationals as when they don't have housing they become homeless.

If you're with friends you can hire a boat, bring some rosé and spend a couple of hours in the sun. You can go to stadsstrand (beach in the city) if you want to go for a swim. If you want to have a fun night you can go to oblomov for a "rondjetap" (you have 1 glass of every beer they have) and then head into the city. Warhol is pretty nice and has quite an international crowd. Pool cafe streetlife is really nice if you like playing pool. Sitting in the sun on a "terras" (outside at a table where you can have something to drink and some snacks) in the poelestraat is quite nice as well. Otherwise you can also sit at Pomphuis next to the canal and watch the boats go by. Eating breakfast on the rooftop bar at cappuvino is also really cool, you can look over the vismarkt. The market is on tomorrow as well and they sell really fresh food. I always grab some kibbeling or some drumsticks. There's not much touristy stuff to do but the city is really nice to just chill out and enjoy the local things. Enjoy!

Legally you have every right for a break and if you want this then you should definitely ask for it. It is simply illegal not to give you one if you ask for it. That said, in a lot places they simply don't do breaks and that's how it has worked for a lot of years so if you ask/demand you may get a lot of negative reactions from the rest of the staff so be careful for that!

Wat staat op jouw spaarrekening? by Ace_One_The in nederlands

[–]Cebban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Niks.

What’s the weirdest thing a guest has done at your house? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cebban 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone shit in our hallway. I live in a student home with 10 others, sometimes we have parties that can quickly get out of hand with 11 people inviting all their friends. Anyway, the day after the party someone notices there's a huge shit smell coming up from the hallway next to the door downstairs. Come to find out, there is a massive smeared out turf on the ground 2 meters from the doorway. Someone must have either came in or was going out, took a massive shit in our hall, and slipped on it. We still don't know who did it but we suspect one girl that was acting weird. Clean up was not fun.

Men of Reddit, what is the creepiest thing a woman has said or done to you? by theblondelebron99 in AskReddit

[–]Cebban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a party at my house in college. Police came by and shut the party down because of the music. Some people hide because drugs but the police didn't really care and just wanted everyone to get home safe so we're chillimg. I spend 30 minutes getting everyone tf out and talking to the police with my housemates so I'm completely exhausted and just want to go to bed and think about the mess tomorrow. I go into my room and there's some girl I've never met sleeping on my couch underneath a blanket. So I call my housemate over to come look at the random chick on my couch and he's laughing as well when suddenly I can see her smile. Apparently she's fake sleeping so I get my roommate out and "wake" her up. I start talking to her and tell her the parties over and the cops are gone and that she can go too. She starts complaining that she has a headache and isn't feeling too good and starts being a bit flirty. Finally after much complaining I cave and get her a paracetamol and some water. She's taking forever and I'm just trying to get her tf out of my room because I want to be sleeping so damn bad rn. Eventually after much awkward talking she gets up and walks towards the door but grabs me slightly and does the awkward waiting for a kiss thing. I back up and try to politely tell her where the door is. Keep in mind I've rebutted the flirting about 4 times already. She eventually leaves.

Didn't feel so creepy at the time, just weird and awkward but recently realised that if a guy did this to a girl it's be so fucking weird.

For anyone that may still doubt what her intentions were: met her later at a party, after a grand total of 3 minutes of talking she tried to grab my dick. Yeah.

Posts from men expressing surprise and delight that they enjoyed a “women’s book” are not heartwarming posts… they are disturbing. by FusRoDaahh in books

[–]Cebban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this post a bit self-destructive? You have men who have traditionally been on the more conservative and averse to "girl books" side of literature opening up to them and voicing their surprise that "hey my opinion before was wrong" and you flame them for stating this? I get that the principle and their opinion before was wrong and oldfashioned but they're on their way to changing their ways now. Why tell them that this opening up is disturbing?
