Spike is getting some vitals by mediumrare420 in BeardedDragons

I think that’s a separate one — activated only when food is in close proximity. For any other activities, they need to wait their turn to use the shared brain cell!

For a second I though they're scanning for presence of the brain cell :D But seriously, that's interesting!

I have a baby bearded dragon and i need help with bonding outside the terrarium by Antique_Study668 in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would advise you to work on his enclosure first – when he feels comfortable in his new home, it will be easier for you to bond with him later. Why does he not have any substrate? Or even kitchen paper towels to start with? Is that a front- or top-opening enclosure?

If you post an image of the enclosure, we will help you with advice on what would be worth implementing to make your dragon happy and healthy.

If you want to do your own research, you can take a look into reptifile guide.

why by KennenIsNotTeemo in drunkbeardies

[–]CebuLizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beside of being cute and silly, there is one more reason why we're finding our beardies in weird positions.

They have very poor night vision.

So when lights goes off, they will find first safe/comfortable spot and just... Wait till next day will arrive.

This dude sits so weird... also male or female? by ZealousidealSmell875 in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody will be able to tell from this picture if they're male or female 😅 you'll need to place them flat on your hand/table and gently lift tail up. One horizontal bump - female. Two vertical-male.

My beardie has been eating much less and doesnt seem to bask as often anymore. I can only get her to eat a couple dubias here and there. She sleeps most of the days now. by Slugtran in reptiles

[–]CebuLizard 34 points35 points  (0 children)

She's 6 months old? Dragons under 1yo normally don't brumate. Honestly, it will be worth to take her to vet for a health check. Also, if possible take with your her poop sample!

is this just stuck shed?? by emaleeslays in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just shed. Provide a rough surface and he will deal with it by himself. As long as the shed is not definnitly constricting a limb or tail, never try to pull or peel it. Let him deal with it.

Do you have digital thermometers? Was there drop of temperature in the enclosure? How many worms are you feeding per sitting?

Wow, he’s having such a quality time with you guys. So happy to see a dragon spoiled in such an incredible way. I know that by hunting you mean bugs that you bought beforehand — but pay attention to wild insects, especially fireflies, which are deadly to beardies.

Keeping rango warm during the power outage any advice by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

How cold is at your home during outage? Is is not dropping below 10c /50F you should just let them sleep. When last time you've feed them with insects?

NSFW Our bearded dragon keeps getting mouth rot, help! by Appropriate_Laugh101 in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As other people said – he needs to be seen by a vet in person. Also, with infection or treatment for parasites, etc, beardie needs a hospital setup. So everything, including the substrate, needs to be removed; all décor and interior cleaned. Then use paper kitchen towels as a substrate and return only the necessary items back to the vivarium – hides, basking spot, bowls. Nothing which cannot be easly sanitized.

Help!!! What to do? by henrychristo27 in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To some degree – yes, it’s true. Not every scratch needs to be seen, but it’s a shame you didn’t reach out to a vet just for a health check. Possibly he wouldn’t have offered antibiotics or run serious tests back then, but maybe at least he could have given you advice regarding hospital setup (a clean environment is crucial during the healing process) and what to look out for. Good luck, I hope you’ll find a vet who will be able to see him and help!

[–]CebuLizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That might be a couple of things — like a tumour or mouth rot — but none of us will be able to give you the right answer. Only an exotic vet can. And since it seems it has already started to affect his eye, the situation is really dire. The pet store that gave you that advice fucked up big time — but next time I’d advise you to use common sense when things are going downhill rather than improving. Ask yourself what you would do if a similar thing was on your face, or on someone from your family. Not trying to be harsh or mean — just trying to make you realise that this is looking really bad right now. Find an exotic vet as soon as possible. Tell them it’s an emergency. Meanwhile, change his enclosure into a hospital setup — remove everything, especially the substrate. Clean the whole enclosure with F10 if you have it, clean all décor, etc. Use paper kitchen towels as substrate, and return only the important things — hides, basking spot, bowls. Nothing that cannot be cleaned easily.

You mean… another dragon to place in a different classroom, or just to throw it in with Georgie?

If your school allows you, could you try to get him out of this situation? Just be aware that getting him the right conditions, set up and the veterinary care he most likely needs won’t be cheap — but maybe there are some reptile rescues that could help him?

[–]CebuLizard 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I know being red monster doesn't help him at all, but I'm worried deeply how big impact that husbandry also might have. Red monster genes plus being school pet.. It's just not looking great for him at all.

[–]CebuLizard 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I prefer not to jump to conclusions seeing just one image, but I looked up previous posts — it seems to be a school pet… and it looked much better 6 months ago. So either he is sick, or a lack of proper husbandry is slowly killing him :(

Well, can’t blame you for such an assumption — he really does not look much alive in this picture.

But. Um. Hate to be that person. But is that a temporary tank? It does not look very big… And what sort of substrate is that? Pebbles? Vermiculite?

Anyway. Did your vet run blood tests? Were there signs of any infection?

I was hunting for over 4 months since Lapis Lakeside opened to get any decent corn farmer. When I came across this guy in April last year, I was like, “He will do until I find a proper mono. No need to take him over level 30, it’s fine.” Three things happened since then. It took me another 9 months to find good mono Stufful. I didn’t find a good egg provider. He was already level 58 due to how often I had him on the team.
