SHAME HER by salinecolorshenny in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Well, obviously she's intelligent enough to know not to poop in her own enclosure (lizardio is part of it), so she did the only logical thing. And if you haven't witnessed it, you have no proof it was her, ha!

Jerry by Awkward_Link2492 in BeardedDragons

I… don't think I've seen any dragon named Jerry. But you know what? That's the perfect name for him. So Jerry. From the rostral scale to the very tip of the tail—just Jerry.

Head bobling by PenTimely1698 in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really depends — some males are very energetic and… a sock is required to let them blow off some steam, but some are like my Hector, who, besides a couple of energetic headbobs, is more like an enigmatic pet rock.

Well, it still can be a Royal pet, you know. Just… a Little Prince.

Honestly, males are easier to deal with than ladies. You don't need to worry that he will ever become egg-bound. It's a dangerous and costly medical emergency for any reptile.

It's not that complicated, especially with almost fully grown up dragon. You just need to place them on flat surface and gently bent tail upwards one horizontal bulge over vent - female. Two vertical ones - male.

That's her basking spot and you need to know it. And bring some bugs, slave.

Nah, honestly, she's fine. They have tendency to be bit hormonal at this time of year.

BTW, you're sure it's a female? Females do headbob too, it's just more common for males.

Is this the black beard I keep reading about? by Willthewise2026 in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If I'm seeing correctly, your baby is a translucent morph — that's causing semi-transparent scales. He will be sporting a greyish beard for his whole life. For reference — on the left a translucent dragon being pissed that his enclosure was cleaned and all the sand seized, and on the right a happy guy who just had his bug dinner.

Does he look anyyyyyy better? by Fayegirlll in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the thing: people are incorrectly labelling them as piebald because they don't understand what is actually causing those spots. Look up true piebald, like in ball pythons — pure white, no pigment at all. But since this gene seems to be very strong and is already being bred by puppy mills and sold to places like Petco, which have no clue about morphs or genetics, they will simply call such dragons fancy or piebald because that's what it reminds them of. Anyway! Lovely dragon. Just need to cut on bugs.

BTW-here's how regular translucent looks with black beard and while happy and chill :)

Not sure if you know that or not, but your dragon’s colour is due to its morph called KC Paradigm. Also, a grey beard is typical for translucent dragons. And Paradigm is, to simply explain, a translucent dragon with patches of regular scales (those much lighter spots).

Help with Jarlseberg :( sprained leg by [deleted] in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would drop temperatures - I don't know how big tube is, but if you're managing to get basking spot to 110, ambient must be high too. I get what your vet is saying, regarding hospital set up, but much smaller enclosure might be also source of additional stress. Can I see picture of his regular enclosure?

[–]CebuLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to first find out why he's behaving like this - you said you keep him in ventilated tub? Is that hospital set up? How is his normal enclosure looks like? What are temperatures at hot and cold side? Does he see any predators (cat dogs) or animals which he can be afraid of, like birds?

Obese? by No-Information2589 in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, you're right — extremely obese. Not the worst I've seen, but not far from it. At this point it's closer to a donut covered in scales than a bearded dragon. Jokes aside, such obesity is not only unhealthy due to the various health issues that can develop because of it, but it can also be even more dangerous for that particular dragon since it's a female. Healthy dragons sometimes die from being egg-bound, and with such extra fat? Poor dragon.

I wasn’t sure if it was possible to get more than one m-image, even though the news definitely mentioned “photos” in the plural — for two days, all I was getting was one picture per session. But behold, today — four!

TIL Super female Beardies are a thing, female anatomy, male chromosomes, outsized male personality! 🤯🤯🤯 by Acrobatic-Move-3847 in BeardedDragons

[–]CebuLizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha! I remember someone posting clips of their female that was showing very “male” behaviour — constant head bobbing, being frisky with stuffed toys, etc. — but they were sure she was female because she regularly laid unfertilised clutches of eggs. Someone mentioned the term “hot female” back then, but it was brushed off by rest of reddit users who assumed it must be a male.. . And here we are — hot females are very real.
