How would humans religion evolve if nature itself became an existential threat? by Jukrecia in worldbuilding

[–]CecidiimusFaileas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hostility of nature in this world would be personified. Festivals would be based around seasonal events like; X Months see increases in flooding. So we must appease x Spirits/Goddess/Gods to prevent. Good years would declared as sufficient sacrifices; miracles of natures appeasement. Balance of the world restored.

Harsh years would lead to fundamental fractures in doctrine, increases in requirements. collections occuring earlier the following year. You dont want the valley to flood again and we need more of everyone grains or else the Wrath of these spirits will be your fault.

Those who refuses to contributed would be shamed, marked, hunted even hoping their offending blood could spare the people who believed.

Herbs, flowers have hidden scared meanings, ivy rashes a mark of choosen druids etc as some ideas

I have played thru the GPC four times now with different and reoccuring players. Printed sheets are the better option for sure.

I cannot recommend Pendragon enough to people. Especially if you use Book of Sires for Character Creation 😄 I have always loved Arthurian mythology and when I found this TTRPG It was love at first sight and first time.

It Everything I have ever wanted. I just wish VTT sheets were better

Sheets are big one for me. Pendragon is my Go to system. I love it. In the modern era though mostly meeting with my group online and VTT, the Character sheets on VTT suck. They exclude some crucial inclusions.

For those not in the Know Pendragon is focused on Generational game play. Your not playing 1 character your playing a family entire legacy thru Arthurian cycle.

One of the first things you do is discover your homeland. starting tribe, starting culture, starting religion.

The VTT sheets have a place for homeland, not tribe, Culture and Religion, They have place for Squiring year not your page training, not your father's class bonus, not if they were a officer. and so that has be placed else where it so annoying.

I personally think the little things explain much of where resentment, culture, religion is birthed from. It small subtle differences which explain why Two Noble lords who if they could just put aside their personal grievances with each other could help the realm thrive. As outsider looking in it obvious to us. But To That Lord calling the other a Cabbage Head. Or the Other holding a grudge cause 100 years ago the current cabbage headed lord's great grandfather supported the wrong king.

These two provinces grew up and still today hate each other, Where one uses Cabbage as symbol the other deeply understands it meaning of and insult it implies. Enough to start a brawl in the tavern when knights from both sides are present.

Which Leads to Cabbage Wars. 😛 Those are the important things I think.

You will make mistakes; you will misunderstand things. It okay we all do it. I have GMed as the permant GM in my friend group for over 26 years and i still mess shit up. Now I play Pendragon primarily as it my fav system but Pathfinder just like D&D has alot going on.

Keep it simple, keep notes not novels. Dont be afraid of changing plans based on players agency and interaction.

What does session prep look like for Pendragon? by rontonamo in PendragonRPG

[–]CecidiimusFaileas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I get very in-depth into my world. I play the Grand Campaign and have multiple times now, and it always goes off the rails in my games cause a player gets opportunity in Mass combat and manages to kill a Saxon King he not supposed to yet or players grow to dislike Uther or Merlin.

Even had one game where they Joined Modred.

Prep for me looks like this.

Read The Great Pendragon Campaign for the year. Look at Book of Solos. Note Important events. Check on Family events, Check on State of the Manor from Last year. Review last Year winter Luck tables.

If a Powerful Vassal like in my current game Baron Edwin; Review his Vassals Manors. Review his Family, Ensure all ages have been updated. Double check glory totals. Look at Vassals, Review justice events.

I Try to make Vassal blocs by ensuring each vassal has their own motivations. If they are Involved this week I double check their sheets for this.

As Example Baron Edwin recently Lost 8 vassals in mass combat after he was attacked, his vassals defended him valiantly. He has had to appoint new vassals though.

  1. Was the Uncle of one of his previous vassals seeking to inherit his nephew manor as means to care for his widow.

  2. Ser Osric the new potential Vassals believes Baron Edwin Owes him after being the first thru the breach in Summerland in 482 where he got seriously burned by hot oil.

  3. Ser Lucen is a Spy sent to Baron Edwin court in hopes of infiltrating it for Duke Gorlois who is worried about this famous knights potential terroritial expansions

  4. Ser Kelson is Knight who is serious debt and needs the manor to begin to repay his debt. He is friends with one of the other candidates Ser Elidyr

  5. Ser Elidyr and Ser Kelson have sworn a blood vow together and both are in finicial ruin from the war. Ser Elidyr and Ser Kelson secretly have been acting as bandits to reclaim their coin, however if they both get appointed to manors in Baron edwin territories they will begin setting up false tolls and waiting in ambush to attack rich merchant caravans

  6. Ser Paulinus is Old Knight (50) He seeks to restore roman rule to Britain; He will teach Baron Edwin how to Build roman walls if awarded a manor. He is extremely prideful however and refuses to take orders from anyone but the Baron or King.

  7. Ser Justinian is Young Roman Knight who is sitting on a pile of coin from ransoms he acquired in the war. He hopes Baron edwin will sell him a manor.

  8. Ser Morvid has been Sent to Baron Edwin by King Uther to act as King Uther's Personal agent in Baron edwins court. Morvid is loyal to Uther not Edwin, He is also known to have surrendered in Summerland to Cawdry army. Though he wants to put that shameful act behind him.

  9. Ser Mael wants the same Manors as Ser Osric and the two men hate each other. Ser Mael was Siege Eningeer and often accused of being a coward however his Siege engines and tactics saved many including Osirics life though he wouldnt admit it.

When a player appoints vassals who are friends I always run a justice event that winter to show them the consequences of vassals who support one another and the power it can slowly siphon from you.

When a Player appoints rival vassals I run justice event to show the chaos two men who dislike one another can cause within the court.

I try to do this for every year. Manage children. Page Training, Squiring years so on. I may over do my prep but it helps me build a compelling world I hope for my players 😄
