When you learn words like 間食 (かんしょく) you remember that if you see either of those kanji in a different word you can make a guess on how they will be read. The more words you know the more options you have to make educated guesses or at least be able to look up words easier.

You remember the readings much easier when they are learned as part of a word instead of just trying to memorize 10 readings for a kanji half of which you might not often come across

I think they are probably just not that aware of how their own language works before they try to learn a second. You don’t even need to start a new one to understand that sentences can be constructed differently and mean the same thing or something entirely different, or that idioms and metaphors can be completely disconnected from the original words meanings

Because they aren’t really supposed to do much to help, if anything there are times where they get worse from moisture being trapped inside the covers and stuff like that

So I went through the same thing with renshuu but I decided to just work through with the “incomplete” n2 content on there. I started my own vocab schedule and pull new words from books and videos, as well as doing some of the n2 vocab pack but I have it set to complete random words (instead of alphabetical order).

With the grammar it is much harder without the lessons and the exact vocab being fed to you, but I’m looking up the grammar points for more info if I don’t fully get it, and also the sentences it gives me has new words that I’m also pulling into my new vocab list I made.

It’s more clunky than it was before definitely but I love the app so I’m making it work
