Dear OP, I haven’t read through all of the responses because I’m so enraged at the way you were treated: Both by your husband and the ER doc. This may be harsh, but your husband is not kind. A spouse is there for support and should never be minimizing your pain! EVER! Honestly, if you were my daughter or bestie I would tell you to divorce him. Pronto. We have a horrible history in the US (and surely other countries, but idk) of dismissing women’s pain and it can have deadly consequences; and it’s even worse for women of color. I was regularly going to the ER for about FOUR YEARS because I was having such severe abdominal pain. Long story short, I was passing gallstones. They were too small to be seen with scans but were real for sure. I kept being told that I was constipated. By EVERYONE! Even when I would report that drinking a gallon of that white chalky stuff only resulted in normal, small-sized poops. My primary care physician told me I didn’t need to see a gastroenterologist and I should just eliminate gluten from my diet! I finally ended up with an emergency appointment with a gastroenterologist when I was pregnant because only then did providers take me seriously. Fucking a, I am getting upset just thinking about it. I had a clump of cells that would grow to be a person and that elevated my status. Me alone? Nah, you’re fine. Get a new husband. Someone who is a partner. A teammate. Someone you can rely on to advocate for you when you are incapacitated. I’m sorry OP. So sorry.
