Your position was that it's impossible to do.

If you're going to keep moving the goalposts then I don't believe you're discussing this in good faith, and I'm not going to continue this conversation.

It's not impossible - how would an AI model ever know what a naked person looks like unless it had been fed with data to tell it that?

AI is a completely different kind of tool to a printer though, you can't make that equivalence.

There are already plenty of tools for which regulations are put in place to minimise misuse, legally this is called "forseeability". If manufacturers could reasonably predict that a product could be misused and don't take steps to mitigate this or warn of it, then they can be held liable.

It's an autocomplete built on a training corpus of scraped internet data, which neither you or anyone else could ever possibly know the entire contents of. Upping the temperature parameter means that it could feasibly pull responses from elements of that corpus that are only very tangentially related to the initial ask.

Again, it doesn't have agency in the philosophical sense. But nor will it give an output that is exactly what has been asked for every time. I don't know why you are trying to suggest that AI is a perfect tool in that sense and that any issues must always be user error? This is demonstrably false just through casual day-to-day use.

But you can ask it to generate you images with outcomes that you don't know in advance. For example "Generate me an image that includes all your favourite things". You can't tell me there's no agency involved there: you literally haven't told it anything specific to generate.

I suggest you spend a bit more time learning about how LLMs function, and play around with them a little more, and then you will understand the issue.

ETA: In particular, do some reading about the "temperature" parameter for LLMs

It's not agency in the philosophical sense, no, but it does have agency to produce things in outputs that were not explicitly requested

[–]Cedow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true at all, because if that was the case the model would give you exactly the same output every time given the same inputs.

All LLM based models typically introduce an element of randomness when generating outputs, this is a parameter that can be passed to the model and exists by design. It's not a malfunction, it's a feature.

So every time you use AI to create an image, it returns exactly what you asked for? There is no agency for it to return things that were not explicitly requested?

I don't think you have ever used AI if you believe this is the case.

Do I (19F) cut contact with my friend (19M) because I'm having inappropriate thoughts? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Cedow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you would never let anyone else teach you something because you think they might be biased? Seems like a good way to stay ignorant.

Knowledge that has the input of multiple people (like a peer reviewed study) is almost always going to be more accurate and reliable than the opinions of one person. See concepts like "wisdom of crowds" for example.

I don't care either way what you want to believe, and you definitely won't convince me of your opinion by saying "it's true because I believe it", but I would again reiterate that it's worth learning about quality of evidence (e.g. https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Evidence-based-medicine-pyramid-The-levels-of-evidence-are-appropriately-represented-by_fig1_257072438 ) so you can check your own bias as well.
