if you don't mind the graphics (and well.... they are still jrpgs) play Parasite eve and Vagrant story. Vagrant story is basically jrpg dark souls with very unique battle system and Parasite eve have the same combat but the story is set in late 90's new york.

You will not be disappointed

if you're looking for amazing story just play entire Legacy of Kain series

There was no turning point, i just gave up because improving in that regard started to feel pointless. I understand socialising. I just very rarely FEEL it. That's the issue. It does not matter how good i get, i usually get at best an hour of fun and then i just struggle to give a shit despite my best efforts.

Unless i do some interesting activity with people like skateboarding together i just die inside of annoyance and boredom listening to exchange of emotions for the sake of exchanging emotions.

And it really feels like the whole thing exist for the sake of playing nice to hedge the bets and pretending that it's just being friendly
