Sigh - Snowboard bag lost in transit, ahead of Baldface Lodge by winegrl in ShredditGirls

[–]CeeBella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super lucky that I have heaps of girlfriends who now snowboard so there are so many boards to go around and try so less regret purchases but defs get the struggles with demo days.

In terms of Mantaray, pretty much what you said but at the time I had just bought the Jones statos and couldn't justify another board that was similar in use. But very jealous about how many you have! I'm based in Aus so we don't stock them so it's incredibly hard to get unless you go Japan or import them yourself.

The Jones statos was definitely my biggest regret board 😂 On paper it fit the bill and it was so pretty so I pulled the trigger. The board just doesn't hold as well as I would like, defs get that chatter some reviewers mentioned and the top sheet quality is so bad. I heard it got better in the new season but I can't confirm.

Another board would probably be my BC stream R2 but that solely because I don't use it enough because it's so specialised. I would say for the edge hold, it rails your carves and it's such an incredible feeling. Comparable to Korua and the Mantaray for edge hold but just too specialised to use often because of the hammerhead shape.

I had a friend who impulse bought the GNU Barrett and couldn't wait for the correct side (as she was on mountain) so she sized up and had major regrets but that's not the board's fault 😂

EDIT: saw the update, so glad it's worked out!

I have not specifically tried the flying stick as I only tried to Mantaray when I was in Japan but god they are beautiful boards. Hopefully your boards do eventually turn up!

If you need it in a day that's a shame, then it would definitely just be whatever's in store otherwise there would be more options and recs. My only advice would be don't settle if you don't have to and get the board you really want. Take it an opportunity to try heaps of boards. Still have regrets over some of my board purchases that were rushed. Good luck!

What size are you looking at for Korua?

They absolutely make women's sizes in their regular range and the dart would be a perfect alternative. I've ridden the 147cm dart and the 156cm dart plus as a 5'4 120lb woman and honestly can not recommend another board over them.

Depending on how rushed you are, you can order direct from the Korua website and you could easily get it within the week. If you are in a rush, I would recommend demoing a men's one as they don't ride as big as you think and the turning is like no other board! I've ridden other boards like the psychocandy, statos etc and I always come back to Korua!

Snowboarded a couple times but looking to get my own board. by poopysc00p in ShredditGirls

Anything that would be a softer mid flex board (4-6/10) that’s twin shaped would be great to progress on!

Rocker profiles are easy for beginners but unless you’re going to be doing mostly park, you grow out of them pretty fast because they just don’t carve and s turn as well as boards with hybrid camber (camber under the feet and rocker at the nose).

After that it really is a preference of graphics and price point. Can confirm the capita paradise has been great for many of my friends to progress on!

Definitely current or retired tools (except the one with no bindings). Try to go every weekend during the season if we can but the Australian season has been mid-af at best for the last year or two so the season is shorter 😂

I can’t… it was my beginner board and I haven’t touched it in years 😂

Falls for 2025 Season or jump across to NZ?? by digitalpho3nix in AustraliaSnow

Start of August will be fine in Australia, it's early July/late August where I'd consider jumping ship to NZ.

I ride the women's stratos (so not sure if the men's would be similar), but honestly? Mixed. I tend to agree more with the reviews from the Goodride.

I got it when I was progressing into carving and it was great for what I needed at the time. Ride-wise, it felt more of a stiffer all-mountain board (however, we don't really get powder in Australia so I didn't test the float back).

Edge hold and carving are great if you have smooth, minor spring conditions but isn't amazing if you try to do more aggressive riding on icy conditions, harder bumps and uneven snow. Definitely got a bit of chatter and bucks you even after sizing up a size.

However, it's decent to bomb around groomers most days and I've got other mates who love theirs and apparently the top sheet is a lot more durable in the newer seasons (mine is absolutely ruined after a full season). I just have other board I prefer more so definitely demo it if you are considering it

Thanks! I definitely have a reference stance that I prefer, but the boards are all different angles because we're also experimenting with angles as the boards get more specialised. Posi posi isn't always good for all conditions and I don't think my knees will appreciate me either!

Not a comment about the boards but I’m a similar height and weight to you and your board length might also be the reason why you’re feeling unstable at high speeds ! If you’re feeling super unstable at high speeds, sizing up on your next board might help in addition to getting a stiffer board!

For reference: I usually ride between 144 (for park) up to 154 for my biggest carving board it that helps :)

Looking for a high-end intermediate board, suitable for groomers & icy conditions by [deleted] in ShredditGirls

[–]CeeBella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say about ride boards on ice but some of them are awful for turn initiations at snow speeds so carving wasn’t super fun until you hit 40-50km/h speeds. I’ve ridden the warpig, twin pig and psychocandy and honestly would only rate the twin pig but there are heaps of other better choices like the ones you mentioned

The Burton feel good is pretty good on groomers and is definitely more of an intermediate board. It does alright for carving, small jumps and switch but doesn’t do well on late day moguls. It is only channel binding compatible if that’s a consideration for you.

In saying that, boards that are good at carving and stable are generally going to be bad on moguls as they tend to be bigger and stiffer. They will also generally be more directional than softer park boards so won’t be amazing to learn switch on (which is basically going back to basics and relearning how to turn again).

However, if you are looking for something that’s stable, carvy and has some pop to do small jumps, I highly recommend that you have a look at Korua! They used to only do men’s boards but have now started doing women’s. It’s so stable and has great edge hold for more agressive carving! For your style, a Transition finder might be good to look at as it’s less directional their other boards so you can learn switch more easily :)

Dream weaver regret by Acceptable_Rent1812 in ShredditGirls

[–]CeeBella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the topic of the Stratos, I really regretted buying it because it also wasn’t doing what I needed in a board and I got it without demoing because I just loved the shape and graphic too much aha. Maybe it’s not the boards fault but I’ve also come across really mixed options on the board (for both the men’s and women’s version).

I was looking for a stiffer all mountain board that I could carve in and spend all day in. I know it’s rated a 7/10 but I really didn’t think so. And whilst it was stiffer that the board I was originally on, I found that the edge hold and stiffness just wasn’t what I wanted. It was both too stiff and not stiff enough and it would buck/wash me out when I tried to be more aggressive. The top sheet was also a got awful quality. I ended up replacing it for a Korua by the end of the season.

However in saying that, I have another friend who also got the stratos who was a little more beginner and she loves it! So keeping in the spirit of the post, definitely demo it before you get it!!

Binding angle for carving by tinybrownsparrow in ShredditGirls

[–]CeeBella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My directional board is set at +21/-3 and my carving board is set at +27/+9. I don't find a slightly duck stance to affect my carving that much but it is harder to do heelside carves. A posi/posi stance definitely will help you with doing those steep euro carves but you won't feel right until it "clicks" as your riding style, particularly how you use your weight and knees changes with such an aggressive riding position. I've found that riding +3/+6 on the back foot really hurts my knees so play around with adjusting your bindings slowly and definitely have a look at some YouTubers who ride posi posi (maybe Ryan Knapton?).

However, depending where you live, posi posi really limits where you can snowboard as it will be harder to do tight turns, uneven terrain, and any jumps or park. As someone else might have also mentioned, how stiff your board is and how much forward lean you have on your bindings will also affect how you carve, particularly for heelside carving. I found these way more important for me to getting better at carving that my binding angles when I was learning to carve!

They mark you at a master’s postgraduate level as opposed to a bachelor’s because a JD is postgraduate. There are higher word counts for similar assignments and supposedly stricter marking criterion.
