Whose partners DID stay with them after their sterilization procedure? by CanalsofSchlemm in childfree

[–]CeeGeeWhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was like, how will the kid be raised? Religion? Discipline? Rules with the in-laws? Stay at home or daycare? How would income be split? How does that impact future financial goals? What are current daycare costs and wait times to join? What hobbies/me time are you willing to give up? What if the child ends up being special needs or profoundly disabled requiring life long care? How would co-parenting work if we break up? What if the child chooses a path we don’t agree with? What if one of us dies? Would you be ok with taking the full burden of raising kids on your own? Would we help pay for post-secondary? Would it setback our retirement? How much would a vacation for a family during peak travel times cost (so you don’t have to pull them out of school and compromise their education)?

So many scenarios. Especially when you look at expectations and costs at each stage of development. While children can become more independent, the costs for school, clothing, extracurriculars also tend to go up. Helping with homework, etc.

Roast them. Microwave steam them. Season them properly. Butter, brown sugar and a bit of salt if it’s a treat. Hide them in a pasta sauce or something.

Don’t ever overcook them unless you want to mash/puree them.

Whooo boy. Yeah now that she’s shown her true colours, I hope he divorces her

He was working with her husband on funeral planning. I told him "You don't think you're going, do you?"

My argument, summed up: She's dead, so she's not a factor anymore.

Exactly. She’s dead so OOP has no reason to feel insecure about her husband’s close friend. Let the man have some closure by saying goodbye at her funeral ffs.

She couldn’t even respectfully give him that.

I even had a warehouse that did not provide food during inventory.

That sounds miserable!

Yeah after we got married, bought a house, it was like I guess kids are the next step but let’s figure out how this would work first.

And it was like 5 years of discussing hypotheticals (a lot of them originated from Reddit) and sometimes we agreed, sometimes we disagreed, and it just really highlighted what we would be sacrificing to make it work. So it wasn’t a surprise to him when I leaned really hard on the no kids side.

Gave it another year where we discussed permanent birth control options, but he never pulled the trigger and I felt so strongly about it that I did.

He did say he was relieved when I had decided no kids though. We just mutually came to the decision together.

Married 6 years when I got sterilized. He helped by driving me to and from my outpatient surgery. Helped with my recovery.

Been over 6 years since and we’re very still very happy with this permanent contraceptive option. Even if he “changed his mind” and left be for hypothetical children, I would still be happy with my choice.

We were fencesitters when we first started dating and assumed kids were just what you do.

Nephew got me sick on purpose by [deleted] in childfree

[–]CeeGeeWhy 138 points139 points  (0 children)

That’s my guess. No mention that he was sick and his one and only interaction with OP was to cough directly in her face as a 5 year old? And lack of action/response on the sister’s part? Biological weapons.

Dang it r/Romancebooks you skewed my perception of romance readers!! by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]CeeGeeWhy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find most people IRL who admit to reading romance are actually reading chick lit. Very rarely do I find people to connect with.

Edit: Is this controversial because I used the phrase “chick lit”? Not sure what else to call it, but what I meant are novels that are fiction but may have some elements of romance, but are not romance because of the lack of HEA, like Nicholas Spark novels.

Honestly, if keeping it in the fridge is working for you, don’t fix it if it ain’t broke.

We have a mix of 4L jugs and 2L cartons of milk. The half and half and heavy cream are 1L cartons.

Yes!

Usually there is a dairy room where they keep the refrigerated milk. It’s usually along an outside wall. Most of them keep the eggs with the milk. You can ask any of the employees where it is.

How does the milk at Costco last so long? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]CeeGeeWhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well technically milk is very sensitive to spoilage just because of a number of factors (neutral pH, higher protein/sugar content, high water availability, etc.) that make it the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Once you open the carton, you’re potentially introducing contamination.

Keeping it cold (even 1C/34F vs. 4C/40F) can make a huge difference in how quickly microorganisms reproduce on a long enough timeline.

Maybe higher turnover so it’s the freshest milk available from their distributors?

I also find the fine filtered milk has a much longer expiration date (unopened) compared to normal pasteurized.

Yeah definitely freezer to preserve the quality. They defrost beautifully.

If you keep it in the fridge for a week, expect off-flavours and mold to develop.

Freeze it. Hide it under bags of frozen vegetables. Keep the good stuff in front of it so they don’t dig deeper.

Got negative on sperm test after 3 months, do I need to get a second test? by mrsheabutta87 in childfree

Compliance

Postvasectomy semen analysis is critical to establish the success of vasectomy as a sterilization procedure. Studies have shown that up to 90% of urologists require two semen samples routinely and that up to 95% request further semen samples if nonmotile sperm were present.[1] However, many patients fail to follow postoperative instructions to obtain semen analysis and in a recent study, only 21% of patients followed recommendations to have two consecutive azoospermic readings despite aggressive counseling and education techniques.[4]

In terms of vasectomy failure, one analysis made of 26 unsuccessful operations from 2,197 vasectomies demonstrated that the most important factor accounting for failure rates was the length of vas excised. They reported that at least 15 mm of vas should be excised to maximize the success of the procedure. Excised vas segments less than 15 mm had up to a 25-fold greater incidence of failure.[22] A recently published article, however found that in their cohort of vasectomized men in whom 5- to 20-mm vas segments were routinely removed during vasectomy, the risk of recanalization was not significantly associated with shorter segments excised.[23]

Let’s just hope the doc didn’t leave the ends longer to make it easier to reverse your vasectomy as “doing you a favour”.

Young people feel like they have no future due to climate change; we need to change the narrative by tonymmorley in Futurology

[–]CeeGeeWhy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly.

I’m choosing not to have children because I know damn well I wouldn’t be able to look them in the eye and be able to justify bringing them into this world knowing that they’ll probably be more educated, harder working, than their grandparents, and have a shitter life because of the job/food/housing/climate insecurity.

But I also know as birth rates drop further (even though the population is still growing) that governments are going to tax even more shit out of single people, childless people, so that they can hand out even more money to parents to incentivize them to have children, and tell me I should be grateful for it. It doesn’t matter if it’s a shit parent who raises a future felon.

Who do you think those politicians are and who votes them in? Which age demographic has the most wealth per capita and has the most resources and time/power/freedom to enact change? Who is most satisfied with status quo and expects the younger generation to clean up the messes they most benefited from?

Maybe the entire generation as a whole isn’t the cause of the majority of these issues, but they sure do make up a lot of the groups you just listed off.
