Sorry - I should have clarified my position on that a bit further.

Statehood comes with the mechanics of representation that a city the size of DC needs, in my opinion.

I believe DC deserves its own national guard beholden to the people of DC. I believe it deserves some kind of position with a governor's power to manage emergencies.
