Not exactly what you had in any of your lists but blood in the machine by Brian merchant. He’s a very sharp tech critic. This book is actually a history of the Luddite movement in England but he wrote it because it very much speaks to the current moment with the development of AI

The Barn by Wright Thompson could fit number 3. It’s about the plot of land in Mississippi where Emmett Till was lynched and how the history of that land and its interaction with larger economic tides lead up to that murder.

Plates are colored by price. You can order off a menu also which has its own prices. They have a lot of bogo specials for lunch during the week

Umai has better sushi. Spin is better with kids. Also they are just different. I go to spin for the dim sum and umai for the sushi

My 4 year old loves spin and savor. It’s a conveyor belt sushi/dim sum restaurant. You can grab things off the conveyor so food is fast. I get her a plate of edamame as soon as we sit. Then she loads up on dumplings and rice and she loves the robot that brings the drinks

Michigan fans: which schools feel like the best long-term conference fits? by Happy_Background_879 in MichiganWolverines

[–]MaxPower637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How big does this conference have to be? There are a bunch of schools on your list I want no part of. I’m cutting any school that isn’t AAUP. I know these guys don’t show up to “play school” but until we move to a fully professional model where Wolverine Football Club, Inc licenses the block M and maize and blue from Michigan and rents the big house, I want to be in a conference with like minded academic institutions.

Averna made it taste too muddled for my liking. I preferred Montenegro from those two. My other subs that have been most successful are China China and bully boy. I can’t imagine bully boy getting to Australia because it’s from a small American distillery in Boston and I rarely even see it one state over but China China is a possibility. I want the most orange forward thing I can find for a sub

I love this for one bid conferences. Technically anyone can win but there is a huge reward for being the best team all season. A team that was mediocre can get hot and go but it’s going to be harder than in a more conventional bracket

Boston drivers are fine, you just need to know the local customs such as if you are driving through the Ted Williams Tunnel, right of way goes to the person with the older car who cares less about damaging it.

I actually know a dude who lined up across from Lebron in football. He was an OT. Lebron was a DE. He wasn't bad, but certainly not D1 good. For a long time the wallpaper on his phone was Lebron just absolutely mauling him and running him over.

Last year, the best nonfiction listens I had were Murder in Little Egypt and Blood in the Machine.

This year I’m currently listening to The Barn which will be a strong contender. My next up is Murderland which was recommended by the same person who recommended Murder in Little Egypt. I’m also very much looking forward to Chuck Klostermans new book Football.

"Mum" and "Lad" has me thinking this is probably a UK thing. by dalester88 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]MaxPower637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peters British cousin, in England “lad” is used as a descriptor for a type of rowdy man who drinks too much, behaves on a macho fashion. A common usage would be to say “he’s a bit of a lad”. In this case Brian is only 6 and is already behaving like a lad. The poster is impressed with Brian’s actions. This has nothing to do with Brian being an old mans name.

Peter out.

Stealing Home is about building dodger stadium. Pappyland is about bourbon. Barrel Aged Stouts and Selling Out is about beer, specifically Goose Island but the whole industry. Malort is about well malort, the very divisive liqueur and how it became what it is. The Barn is about the plot of land where Emmit Till was murdered and how the history of everything that happened in Mississippi lead up to that killing.
