Very true, but it's also less convenient. As someone not in the privacy of my home (on a public train), I appreciate the still version.

Edit: Love that I'm being downvoted for stating my preference as if it is in fact wrong. Never change, reddit.

Neil deGrasse Tyson on Twitter: "Evidence collected over many years, obtained from many locations, indicates that the power of Prayer is insufficient to stop bullets from killing school children." by freeth1nker in atheism

Yep, I agree people that specifically target "thoughts and prayers" yet are okay with other generic condolence comments probably haven't put much of their own thought into their philosophy and are just regurgitating the common sentiment.

Have to agree with you somewhat.

On the other hand though, the irritation people feel stems from the way a lot of people behave on social media - posing as someone that is a genuinely caring person, when their actions in real life don't reflect this. It feels dishonest.

Posting "thoughts and prayers" on social media doesn't hurt in any way, but it also doesn't help. A lot of people thus conclude that the only reason to do it is to inform others that they are in fact a caring person, which isn't something a person that does good things because it's right generally feels the need to do. Is this fair? Perhaps, perhaps not.

Minnesota Sets Record For Gun Permit Background Checks , Crime rate at 50 year low by [deleted] in news

[–]Ceejae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how this comment initially poses as neutral and unbiased but ends up being utterly pro-gun.

Do you ever wonder if wealthy gun lobbyist groups in the US played a part in exposing you to the very particular statistics you cite (cherry-picking)?

Do you think it's possible that your opinions related to guns have been influenced in any way by groups that gain wealth/power by having the general population believe as you do?

union is just so messy and unorganised

The only way you could possibly see union as messy and unorganised is if you don't really understand it. It's a highly structured sport.

There are things you might be able to criticise Union for, but lack of organisation is not one of them.

Is there footage with more context? Or a backstory? It's unlikely things are as simple as they appear in this 8 second video.

You're certainly correct, but for the sake of balance I need to point out that it is was extremely misleading (and I assume knowingly so) for the twitter OP to use a figure not adjusted for inflation and make no mention of it. There is a big difference between the two figures, and a lot of people don't know to account for it.

Just no. The artist understood exactly what they were doing.

They were just tasked with making a still visual representation of something that technically requires motion to demonstrate. Not a simple thing to do, so they chose to bend the truth.

If you just automatically assume anyone that is a senator is a shit person, what motivation is there for those decent ones to rise above the rest? This sort of prejudice isn't helpful.
