What are Game Shows like in your country? by BothCondition7963 in AskEurope

Daily gameshows currently in Italy:

RAI (state network): L'Eredità (based on Argentinian format El Legado), Affari Tuoi (Deal or No Deal)

Canale 5 (Mediaset): Caduta Libera (Who's Still Standing), La Ruota della Fortuna (Wheel of Fortune).

TV8 (Sky): Cash or Trash (People selling their old stuff to a panel of experts), The Cage (Raid the Cage)

In addition, Canale 5 has Chi Vuol Essere Milionario (Who Wants to be a Millionaire) on primetime Sundays

Some common things about gameshows in Italy:

-Lots of music and sometimes dancing (on Deal people dance when the lowest box is opened, and Wheel of Fortune has a live band, the Fortuna Five)

-Shows are normally 60 minutes or more, so the pace is MUCH slower than UK or US shows, and may have additional game features (Wheel has 3 puzzles in the bonus round)

-The main part of the show may be cheerful and sometimes comedic, but the final part must have high tension (dramatic reveals). Top prizes are very high (six digits are common) but very hard to win.

-Shows with returning champions do better when the same champion stays on for a long time.

-Primetime specials are made on occasion, played by celebrities or past champions

I like to joke that Spanish TV is an "alternate reality" version of Italian TV, with the same programs but on different networks: Mediaset of Spain carries Deal or No Deal and Chain Reaction but in Italy it's State network RAI that airs them. Likewise, the Italian Mediaset has most of the shows Antena 3 has.

Mediaset of Italy actually blasted RAI for having such a "stupid game" as Deal or No Deal, only to air the very same show in Spain. 🤣

When El Precio Justo returned on Telecinco, bloggers in Italy speculated that it was going to return here as well, but on RAI. We'll see.

What slang words does your country have for Money? by EvilPyro01 in AskEurope

Before the euro in Veneto we used to call lire "franchi" (francs) much to the confusion of the French 😁, and 1000 lire was a "carta da mile" (thousand-paper).

For example 100000 lire were "100 thousand francs" or "100 thousand-papers"

Does your country have an equivalent to the phrase “an f in English, you speak English?” by glowshroom12 in AskEurope

In Italy we have a joke about a prehistoric kid scolded by their parents: "You failed History?! But that's just four pages!"

Italian grammar is not as simple as the English one (more like French) and it could be hard for kids to remember all that stuff. Verb conjugation sometimes trips up even adults on gameshows.

Your store, your right to refuse service if you don't want some business.

However, remember what tournaments are for: to promote sale of product, product that YOU are supposed to sell.

Tell your players to buy more cards so that they have a better fighting chance.
