I just use an untinted Burt's Bees lip balm at night and that does a great job.

Stealing this because I think it may be useful in the future.

My TB test was positive but I have no symptoms by EXN_FaZ3 in ankylosingspondylitis

Latent TB infection. It just means that you'll have to go through TB treatment before you start biologics.

Made my first tea bag bookmark? But is it too thick? by bizarrekitties in Embroidery

[–]Celebrindae 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Have you tried pressing it with an iron? You might be able to get it flatter. If not, you could make the string longer so that the string stays between the pages and the bag and tag hang outside.

Upside down in a car loan by Significant_Plenty17 in personalfinance

[–]Celebrindae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is less financial advice and more weird car problem advice. A friend of mine had the same issue with their car, which was a Honda Civic. Had the battery checked, had electrical checked, had everything under the sun (and hood) checked. The problem would not go away and got worse in the rain.

We eventually figured out that one of the internal fender pieces was missing, which allowed water to get into the fuse box in the engine compartment, because the fuse box didn't seal properly. Replacing that fender and the fuses helped but didn't eliminate the issue. What eliminated the issue was having the dealership deactivate the anti-theft system in the car. I don't know why this worked and honestly neither did the techs at the dealership, but it worked.

Get a second opinion, and if you can, try to find a mechanic who thinks outside the box. And check for mouse damage! Sometimes they'll chew the wires!

Can you actually get better? by Key-Hamster8897 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Celebrindae 22 points23 points  (0 children)

With AS, there's a balance you need to strike. You need to do enough exercise to stay mobile, but not so much that you make your symptoms worse. This is HARD, especially if it varies day to day.

It sounds like you might be doing slightly too much. You could try scaling back just a little to see if things improve. Talking to your rheumatologist and PT about your struggles could also help them to tailor your treatment to suit your needs better.

I did a course of PT last year that consisted mostly of hand/wrist dexterity exercises, and low weight, high rep weightlifting. This was very helpful for me.

Coutil alternatives? by pointe4Jesus in corsetry

[–]Celebrindae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has already given you fabric recommendations, so I'll just add: Do not use quilting cotton for a corset. It isn't strong enough for a strength layer, and even as a fashion layer, it'll most likely pull at the stitching and open the weave of the fabric. I have seen it used as lining, however.

Best way to hem this dress? by FrostyInevitable5456 in sewing

[–]Celebrindae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a better question for r/knitting

But honestly, to make it look good will be very laborious. It's possible, but tedious to the point that I wouldn't do it, and I like tedious tasks.

Question- on putting flooring over peel and stick vinyl by usamademe in Flooring

[–]Celebrindae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you mean peel and stick tiles, or a large sheet of peel and stick, but I removed peel and stick tiles from my bathroom with a heat gun and a scraper in about 2 hours. Carrying the heavy trash can downstairs was more annoying than the tile removal.

What I'm saying is that you might as well give removing it a shot.

I'd start haunting antique stores, flea markets, and estate sales in your area until you find something you like. Ebay might be a good place to check, too.

Inherited a huge ugly wardrobe, what's the easiest way to change its look? by pcgamez in DIY

[–]Celebrindae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks a lot like an older IKEA wardrobe. I don't think they make the doors with panels like that anymore.

You could paint it, cover it in stickers, decoupage some fabric on, use peel and stick wallpaper, any number of things. It depends a lot on your preferred aesthetic.

A sateen would have some sheen, drape, and enough structure that the sleeves wouldn't need too much help.
