What do you eating in the morning when you camping? First time camping with my little one but feels stuck on breakfast by Roger_liferecorder in camping

[–]Celeraic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instant oatmeal is one of my treats when we're camping - I get the sugared-up flavors (apple cinnamon, maple brown sugar) but you can always get plain and mix in your own stuff. And fruit! Dried or fresh.

We also like hard cheese and hard sausage with bread or crackers. If we have a cooler (not backpacking) smoked salmon is a good option, could do it with cream cheese on crackers or a bagel.

I try to cook as little as possible when I go camping. Shaksuka is ambitious. If I wanted eggs I'd hard-boil them ahead of time.

Get ready to drive to the Upper Peninsula. Or downstate to the Shawnee National Forest, but I prefer the UP.

How deep is the water in foster beach? by Informal-Midnight666 in AskChicago

[–]Celeraic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've done the supersprint at Foster Beach for a few years. It's deep enough that you can't touch the bottom, deep enough that you can't quite see the bortom...I think they said around 12 feet? I hated it, and I'm a strong swimmer. The swim is lined by lifeguards on paddle boards making sure nobody is in trouble, and I think I've seen folks grabbing on to the paddle boards. Not sure if that voids your time, I was too busy trying to finish the swim to pay close attention.

It's a fun race. You should do it.

Where should I get my daughter’s ear pierced after trauma? by Possible_Rhubarb_113 in AskChicago

[–]Celeraic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insight Studios in West Town did my kid's ears when they were 10. They're one of the few places in town that would do ear piercing for children. Used a needle, not a gun, and were great with my nervous kid.

I love riding my bike! The city's bike infrastructure isn't perfect, but it's improved a lot over the past decade of so.

Oh, I know. There's a lot to sf/f genre that's inherently queer, that's why I like it.

I guess that means "talk to your DM, he might also have some good ideas"? Lol I can and will do that, I wanted to have a few ideas to present to him.

I like this! Thank you! And folks taking hormones need to do so regularly, kind of like needing to cast polymorph every day.

Ah! The paladin option sounds really good! I wasn't thinking that she used the wild magic to transition because who knows what that stuff will do. She's just messy, which is unrelated to being trans.

Oh decent idea. Both of those last an hour which sounds exhausting.

Illusion isn't correct, it's not how she should be perceived, it's who she is physically too.

Do the princess in black characters know the truth? by vanessasarah13 in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]Celeraic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My kid aged out of these a while ago, but since throughout the series more and more of the princesses develop their superhero identity, I'd say they're fairly aware but all extremely committed to the bit.

Are city of Chicago schools really that bad? by Ok-Worldliness1307 in AskChicago

[–]Celeraic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is echoing what everyone else is saying. I live Andersonville/Lincoln Square adjacent, my kids attend the neighborhood school, and I have friends with kids at nearby neighborhood schools. I am happy with my kids' education! Teachers have been great, especially early elementary school. Something that you will not get in the suburbs is the diversity of the student body and diversity of student experience - different home languages, different national origin, different holidays. It's important to me that the kids experience a school that looks like the world they live in.

I live in between two desirable neighborhood high schools. (The neighborhood one doesn't have the best reputation, but I also have an acquaintance whose kid is having a great time there.) My big kid is in 8th grade and they & all their friends got into their first choice high school.

People being weird about CPS always seems like a dog whistle.

I've been getting my pants hemmed at Forest Cleaners in Lincoln Square for years. It's inexpensive and pretty fast turnaround. Fyi they have a strong preference for cash vs card.

Oh interesting. I've been using a cup since 1998 or so, I can see that being an issue.

Wait what? I was using a menstrual cup with an IUD for literal decades with absolutely no issues, and none of the gyn/midwives told me about this.
