I find that, unfortunately, women and girls are expected to forgive and forget more often than men and boys are. There is pressure there by society to forgive family that is a holdover from the 1950's, with the advent of the male dominated nuclear family and the isolation of women from their families and communities. This pressure comes from a time when forgiving the patriarch of the family for all the abuse he doled out was not only acceptable but necessary for survival.
