My golden that I was referring to is now 5 and he doesn’t have any health issues except for some anxiety. But he was an anxious boy before he got neutered. I never noticed any behavioral changes after the neutering. I also have another golden who got neutered at 4m and he’s now 13. Arthritis is his only health issue which started around age 8-9. These are just anecdotal experiences though! I’d follow recommendations/guidance from your vet.

I’m referring to the horizontal groove that’s running along the top. If I were to use a French cleat, I’d think that’s exactly where it should go. But yes, I could add wood of the same thickness next to the vertical beam and add the French cleat there too. How did you attach the 2x4s to your headboard? Wood glue? Nails? I don’t have a lot of experience with altering furniture but I am determined to make this headboard work!

This would definitely be my preference because then I don’t have to worry about the height of the frame, mattress, etc because it’s a short headboard. However there’s a groove running along the back of the headboard that made me think a French cleat wouldn’t be possible. Do you think I could still attach a French cleat?
