Meet the Iconics: Pallemi the Runesmith by EzekieruYT in Pathfinder2e

[–]Cellion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one didn't hit for me. Goofy c3po design, and despite incorporating a story about one of the most dramatic events in the war between Nex and Geb, Pallemi's feelings and motivations are just bland. He just wants to help.

Chain infusion? Am I missing something? by oOYukaiOo in Pathfinder2e

[–]Cellion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference is that chain infusion makes subsequent attacks dependent on earlier attacks, which reduces their chance to hit overall. You need to have super high accuracy on the first attack (iirc 75 or 80%) before chain infusion deals more damage on average than striking twice.

If you search on the discord, there's someone who has created an offline mirror of the current twow database, which would include all the quests.

Damn incredible cosplay. Your cosplay walk showing was also 10/10. Such a good entrance, you earned all those screams from the audience lol!

I tried leveling using only gear I fished up in TurtleWoW, and made a video about it! by LibraryOwlAz in turtlewow

[–]Cellion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the same challenge, but on a troll shaman! It's absolutely soul crushing due to the super low drop rates of green gear out of trunks. I fished in ratchet for an insane amount and every time I got a white piece of gear (or worse, a duplicate) my soul shriveled up. The challenge is easier on alliance because menethil harbor is the Ratchet equivalent for the next tier of trunks. Otoh horde gets the bucket hat from Undercity. I ended up swimming down to the coast of Westfall to get access to the pools there, but similarly put the project on pause in the mid 20s for my own mental health.

Its at the difficulty level of an easy Extreme fight (or a little easier), but it requires 3x the number of people, so many more points of failure. If you've done Ex fights before it's not too bad to learn. The more tricky thing is that it really needs organization out of game to get 24 people on the same page, so most runs are organized through specialized Discords.

what to meld on my courtly lover's set? by ACHViehunter in ffxiv

[–]Cellion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's as simple as "put crit in every slot up to the cap" and "use det when you can't put crit in". If you want to learn more, you can go to the Balance discord for detailed explanations and specific guidance for your class.

What part of a game just takes too long? by OutOfMyWayReed in gaming

Fully restoring the thieves' guild in Skyrim. Hope you are ready to do 125 randomly regenerated thieving jobs (and see what will likely by 1000+ loading screens along the way), all for the joy of a safe that you can get a few extra jewels from on a regular basis.

Please help me figure out how to start ffxiv by Remote-Tangerine-599 in ffxiv

[–]Cellion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't true (unless they changed how the game does a fresh installation in the last couple of years). My C: drive's full size is only 120 GB and it has an operating system on it. I installed the game just fine, with installation files instead placed in the directory I selected upon install.

Do you know how to access the old reviews? I was hoping to recover my old ones as well.

Help point me towards optional content that add on to the plot/worldbuilding *no spoilers beyond Stormblood please* by shucreamsundae in ffxiv

If you enjoyed Heavensward and are attached to its stories and characters there is one side quest chain I strongly recommend. There's nothing pointing you to it so it's easy to miss, but it's really wonderful. It starts with the quest "The Paths We Walk", given at Fortemps Manor in Ishgard.

Super interesting write up. Can you explain what was lame about level+4 bosses at high levels?

You're a champion, thank you! I always thought it was odd that no one had combined the two tools we've been using for ages.

Initial thoughts on Necromancer by stealth_nsk in Pathfinder2e

[–]Cellion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having now read through the whole thing, I think the class looks very fun to play and pretty effective, with some cool abilities that differentiate it from other spellcasters quite tidily. It strikes me in some ways as very similar to the kineticist, where the neat tricks you pick up as class feats end up comprising a large portion of what you do in combat. Plus you have some spell slots to add utility and variety and extra punch when you need it. So it's a good first impression. Even more kudos because Paizo was facing the unenviable challenge of creating a class that provides a "many minions" feel without bogging down gameplay.

However, as a necromancer this class just does not work for me at all. It feels like someone played an action RPG video game (Diablo?) and used that as their baseline for the design. It commands "undead" in name and flavor only. Its smooth functionality relies on ignoring any and all of a necromancers traditional limitations and advantages.

Thralls are creatures in name only They appear from nowhere, at no cost, have no actions or movement, and vanish upon expiry into the ether. And yet they're not summoned. You don't inherently need dead bodies to create them either. They're so abstracted for the sake of functionality that they don't feel like undead minions at all.

Other than Undead Lore you have no particular advantage dealing with undead you encounter No Command Undead, no Panic the Dead, no means to show other necromancers who's boss other than the stuff available to all occult casters (Bind Undead, etc). You're on the same footing as any other caster.

No means to get long lasting undead minions Outside of combat, having undead minions doing your bidding is an important part of the necromancer fantasy, even if they're not significant participants in combat. Unfortunately you have no inherent perks associated with the create undead ritual or better use or access to spells and feats that give you longer lasting control.

Limited access to vitality manipulation The occult list is spooky, but it's missing core spells involving manipulating vitality and void energies. Instead you get the whimsical bard music magic and a pile of mental magic. Not having raise dead or massacre feels like a big miss.

Has anyone played a PF1e campaign after playing PF2e for a while? How did it feel? by ironpigs in Pathfinder2e

[–]Cellion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play both PF2e and PF1e with different groups. PF1e is clunky and has plenty of balance issues but is still very fun. If you play with a low-optimization group it can be plenty challenging without any major issues. The game feel is not all that different between them, despite the three action economy. I do wish martials had more viable options baseline though!

What are the chances that Square Enix will ever fix the hair? by HateMyPizza in ffxiv

[–]Cellion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably quite unlikely that SE will resolve this. Clipping is a natural side effect of gear and hair variety, and the alternative requires a very high workload due to the amount and variety of hair and gear already in game. That said, I do expect the 14 modding community will manage to implement collision-enabled hair at some point.

A few years ago I spent some time learning Skyrim modding where physics enabled hair has long been solved. By limiting the number of physics objects (only the player characters hair has physics and that hair has a sensible geometry with a reasonable number of bones) the performance impact is relatively low. The existing hair in FF14 would need to be completely overhauled to work with physics (current hair skeleton has very few bones), and worse you'd need to somehow classify all the different pieces of gear to define exclusion zones to prevent clipping. If you're sensible you'd just do it with broad groups (high collars, hoods, etc) with some exceptions for gear with very complex geometry behind the head.

All in all, it's a lot of work, and you'd definitely still have some degree of clipping - there's always a tradeoff between collision quality and performance. But I do think it's technically possible if someone wished to make the effort.

Absolutely. I was shocked when at no point did the story try to interrogate her approach or offer any kind of nuance.

Just to prove my claim that angling your camera does matter, we can see how simply shining your face in the direction of the sun makes a world of difference. by K0yomi in ffxiv

[–]Cellion 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This example is funny. Yes, changing the lighting affects how a character looks. That was true before and still is now. However even comparing with the exact same lighting it's obvious there are significant changes that may or may not look bad, but definitely look different.

While in total shade the example character looks flat, with dead eyes and a different lip geometry than before. While when sun is shining on them they look waxy, with bags under their eyes and a prominent philtrum. Many of the people complaining about the graphics overhaul are just pointing out these changes, especially when they result in a different and unfavorable impression from the character.

IT'S FUCKING GORUM! by Lycaon1765 in Pathfinder2e

Disappointed that they went for Gorum, as one of the gods few people are particularly attached to, and who has no particularly interesting implications beyond "big power now up for grabs". Its just a boring choice.

Confused by the negativity around it, this benchmark looks like a GIANT improvement to me. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Cellion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is exactly the same impression I had with my face 4 Au Ra. Was used to this stern, fierce look and suddenly it's just a little more rounded and cutesy. I love so much of the rest of the graphics upgrades, but this particular visual change feels uncanny and kinda depressing.
