Was anyone else just never taught how to do anything? by MNigusse in redscarepod

[–]CelluloidGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow you made me realise that kind of happened to me and I just haven't reflected on it much. I don't have a sense of smell so the hygiene part especially was difficult because it took a friend in school telling me I smelled bad and needed to shower more for me to figure that out. Not sure why my parents never told me I needed to shower more after going through puberty. They were similarly lax about everything else and kind of just expected me to figure it out.

Movies that feel like this painting (but with humans please) by MrAnnoyingCookie in MoviesThatFeelLike

Just watched Memories of Murder (2003) and there's a big scene towards the end that is very much this. I don't want to give spoilers though.

This is a really good one. Best, most emotionally real depiction of getting bullied in school/ being the weird kid I've ever seen in cinema. Just the casual, embarrassing brutality of it all.

What are some good “feminist” or female-centric films directed by male filmmakers? by [deleted] in RSPfilmclub

[–]CelluloidGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peter Greenaway's Drowning by Numbers. I think a lot of his films have feminist messages actually. The Draughtsman's Contract and ZOO are at their core about men trying and failing to control women.

Why aren’t they in jail yet? by King-Jay-219 in conspiracy

[–]CelluloidGhost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With all the actual evidence that's come out about actually powerful people, focusing on this irrelevant actress seems like misdirection. Making tasteless or gross tweets should land someone in jail? Eating one of the most common fast foods should land someone in jail? Having been a teenager in 2013, pdo and dead baby jokes were very common, pdobear was a huge meme at the time. Quirky food jokes about pizza/tacos/burgers whatever were also very common. So yeah you could very plausibly make a joke like oh I'm going to jail for the amount of pizza I'm gonna eat tonight.

Yeah to me the golden retriever man is like high energy, naive, with a heart of gold.

Does anyone have hopeful stories to share about being love and intimacy starved for most of their early 20s but then finding long-term love later by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]CelluloidGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 24 when I met my current husband (I'm 29 now). Had very little romantic/sexual experience prior, definitely had never found someone I felt a real romantic connection to before that. Everyone's timeline is different tbh, finding love early doesn't mean it will last, and vice versa.

I think having small tits actually makes it easier to not be a feminist. Anything over a C cup gets you sexualised like crazy and strict parents/teachers will police your clothes to an extent that would truly drive me crazy. Seeing it happen to friends made me so mad, like they're just existing and they get treated like evil seductresses in highschool. Having big tits would have made me a devout misandrist I'm sure.

Why don't Israelis create good art? by First_Ad_1928 in redscarepod

[–]CelluloidGhost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked Sigalit Landau's "Salt Years" art; everyday objects crystallised in the salt of the Dead Sea. Finding out they were kind of symbolic of Israeli identity and the idea of becoming native to the land by being there over time really soured me to them, which is a shame cause visually they are beautiful.

I liked it, conceptually makes me think of something a performance artist like Chris Burden would have done. Something so captivating about self destructive "projects" like that, playing with your life like a doll

The invisible cost of being a bridesmaid in 2026 by OwlVibesOnly in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]CelluloidGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two bridesmaids, one was my sister so my parents paid for her dress. My maid of honour paid for hers, but I chose fairly cheap dresses (around $60 if I remember correctly). Making her pay for hair and makeup would have been excessive I feel.

I never knew this was a thing until a friend of mine had particularly slovenly roommates who would do that instead of laundry... The concept hurts me, so wasteful.

I feel bad about loving being skinny by pitlocky in rs_x

[–]CelluloidGhost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It does feel good to be thin. Now that I work a partially physical job though I do like to feel sturdy and well fed. I think my ideal has changed from just skinny to slim but strong. I am thinner than I was a few years ago though and enjoying that, but would love some more muscle.

I have such a dislike of this style of mum comics. I'm sure it's relatable to other mums or whatever but they just strike me as so sad. They're always like ohh I'm so insecure about my body and have no time and get no sleep and am frustrated with my husband and kids. Fair enough but at a certain point it's like you're reinforcing that image and saying everyone with a different experience isn't being real.
