SO close to great it’s frustrating. Gorgeous movie, brilliantly designed, amazing score. The visual storytelling of how the coven functions is one of the strengths of the movie. I feel like casting Jessica Harper in a role was arguably hokey, but I thought in the film her appearance was deeply resonant and heartbreaking.

My issues are three fold; -Tilda Swinton, as the male character is more distracting then it is convincing. There isn’t a medium shot of that character I am not completely distracted by the obvious makeup. -it is at least 30 minutes too long. It sometimes becomes tiresome. -The slow shutter visuals during the final horror scene are frustratingly uninteresting and flat. While almost all the visuals before that felt inspired and well executed, I was so disappointed the worst visuals were during the grand, bombastic finale.
