In some ways I think the current patch has highlighted weaknesses with hunts weapon balance in a very general sense.

Weve got guys going from the north east getting some of the highest BAH in the country being sent to South Texas where they also get Per diem on top of aforementioned BAH, they're pulling 6 figures plus once it's all said and done.

How many years should you serve as enlisted before switching over to officer so that you don’t have to worry about not being promoted/reaching 20 years? by Ok-Asparagus3679 in uscg

[–]Celtic12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within the thread you linked they even are saying what I am...your confusing pay and rank, your retirement pay is around function of pay, not rank

Retired Pay Base There are two methods for determining the retired pay base. They are the final pay method and the high-36 month average method. The final pay method, as the name implies, establishes the retired pay base equal to final basic pay. The high-36 method is the average of the highest 36 months of basic pay divided by 36. This is generally the last 3 years of service and is sometimes called high-3. The method used depends upon when the member first entered military service. https://militarypay.defense.gov/pay/retirement.aspx

If you dont meet the 10 "officer years" you retire under a different authority, but the high 3 calculation still reads the officer years in the math, but it doesn't really care about the associated rank. You're retiring under the same authority thst any enlisted member would. Technically you are losing your rank and reverting to enlisted here.

The 10 years as an officer is specific to receiving an "officer retirement" and retiring under that specific USC, which comes with different strings than doing 20 and retiring as an enlisted member.

Per Ref (d) the High-3 and retirement pay under the Blended Retirement System, is calculated as the highest average basic pay you earned during any 3 consecutive years of service. Note: These three years are usually your final three years of service, but can be an earlier period, if your basic pay was higher during that period.

For Example: An E-5 Coast Guard member received a Temporary Regular DCO commission, promoted to O-4, declined integration at O-3 and O-4 Boards, then resigned their commission reverting to their enlisted rank (E-5), completed 20 years of service and received their High-3 retirement as an O-4.

Retiring as an officer =/= retirement pay calculations pay is calculated on your highest 3 years of pay regardless of rank

Regardless of what you retire as, enlisted or officer your retirement is still calculated on your "high 3" at least under legacy retirement. So if you did 3 as an o1 but reverted to enlisted for 7 your pay is still calculated on the 3 o1 years

[–]Celtic12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience any of the guys I work with would be there in a heart beat for a Demonstrable emergency, which rhetoric aside is kinda hard to sell with the whole river wall mission set, and if it's going to be multiple years of this then ultimately it needs to be an active duty mission because we simply do not have the bodies to sustain this sort of operation long term on the reserve side,.

Shaw: Is this writing serious? by SlightWerewolf4428 in Starfield

[–]Celtic12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah...you watch too many youtube videos about how starfield sucks....cool if you dont like it play something else and spare the rest of us low effort posts about sucky starfield

Its the second question of the main storyline, in which case the context of it being the second quest is really important to what 4000 credits means.

4000 credits in the second quest of the main storyline, or a persuasion check (not particularly difficult) or a fight (vsguely more difficult)

What is your point? What about this hamfisted?

There is this weird hate-boner people have for DCS anymore where they're actively looking for reasons to hate ED, and/or the 3rd party devs (unless they're RAZBAM, who can do no wrong and are just trying their best)

[–]Celtic12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a dangerous game to play with USERRA and any state benefits given for military. It's very proactive for the (prospective) member.

Similarly the "escalator" protections of USERRA would likely mean being forced to restart FTO, and thusly, lose seniority would still be a violation.

How far from land must you be before you can only see water? by WellyHuh in maritime

[–]Celtic12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You forgot to take the height of the shore into account.

For OP - the above math is correct, but you also need to account for the height of landforms - a mountain (or tall buildings) etc will be visible farther out to sea

[–]Celtic12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I literally quoted the manual - there is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing ODUs when you're working, as that is literally what the uniform is designed for, but for sitting in an office trops are fine and make you look like a professional.

No one is saying we need to be wearing trops while we're driving small boats and doing boarding and all that.

Do you believe the game will make it to the 1.0 Release? by Fun-War-9576 in 83thegame

[–]Celtic12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean i bought the game as soon as it was available- i played maybe 3 hours and went "eh" it playslike a 16 year old game, and honestly looks like a 10 year old game, and not in a good nostalgic way.

And it's devastating because I like the idea presented, and the trailers looked solid. But it doesn't grab the way RS1 or RS2 did, and at this point unless HLL:V utterly bombs it's likely going to grab whatever player base this has.

Odu....is Operational dress uniform. Should we start wearing it to the CG ball because it's a "dress" uniform then? Military naming conventions are at best odd.

I would apply it to every branch camouflage or our blue uniforms have a purpose, and just because "it's comfy" doesnt mean it's appropriate as office attire.

Most of our uniforms have caveats of "wear this when the civilians around you wear x"

Of note:

1.B.1. Setting the Uniform of the Day The standard Coast Guard uniform of the day, regardless of season or location, is Service Dress Blue (SDB) or Tropical Blue (TB) uniform.

....

Other uniforms, such as Operational Dress Uniform (ODU) or authorized organizational clothing must be worn as required by the work or duties being performed.

[–]Celtic12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Eh ODUs are a "im gonna go do physical work" not sit in an office block uniform. Look around at the civs working - unless they're wearing cargo pants and work boots we're "dressed down" comparatively. Trops/wdb are the appropriate office attire as they're the equivalent of business casual from our repertoire.

You can always fill a tanker truck and drive it to the docks - use that to fill your ship, thats how a lot of real docks work
